Desert Tents

Does a dog bark wrong
too loud
too long

Does he sleep too much
too sound
as upon
holy
ground

Does he eat with abandon
carefree
of priest
and nun

Does he look upon master
with glass rimmed eye
urgent and anxious
without
ever
asking
why

pink belly like seal
Does he curl
to my side
pressing to me
the warmth
of his hide

ears as desert tents
Does he lift
for me
ever vigilant
wouldn't
you
agree

I guess it all depends on the dog now wouldn't it? I've known dogs who acted like gentlemen and and dogs who acted like, well, dogs.

Jack, as usual, you are right. This poem was an ode to Frank, one of my four yorkies, and always a gentleman if only a so-so squirrel hunter. :-D

Um, the answer to that is a resounding 'yes.' A dog can and will bark too loud, too wrong, or maybe this human's ears are too fucking sensitive. Got a 4th dog about 1 1/2 years ago. the first night, I knew the whiny, demanding little bitch was going to drive me nuts. She is finally gone, but I felt like Bugs Bunny when he is psychologically damaged, nerve wracked and jumping every time she yelped. The last couple of days have been the most peaceful around here since the last time I thought we were rid of it back in July. They brought her back, lol. Wish me luck this time!

The dogs that remain...Django is a black male lab, best dog I've ever lived with. He is a gentleman, learned fast I don't like being licked on the face. He knows I'm needy if I let him. Amazing that he knows when, very seldom, he can. My hiking dog. He likes big long hugs. =) hardly barks, and it's a short deep "whoaf!"

I just left a post of a much different topic, maybe I didn't... When I looked at this one again, I read more into "lifting tents" than you ever intended, lol. Tonight is a fun night to be a blogger.

The dog comment I first posted sounds harsh when I reread it, but I was actually laughing as I typed it. That is the only negative I have encountered thus far as a blogger-- the inability to see the person's expressions, the body language, and to convey certain ideas, moods. That is why writing well is a gift. When I am purposely writing a poem or other piece, I take great care to convey certain sentiments. However, I am more relaxed in chats and, tonight in comments. I don't want anyone to think I am a member of the dog-haters' club. Just so everyone who reads this knows, the other dogs are happier just like I am that she is gone. She weighs only 9 pounds but she was mean to the labs and the 6 lb. chi. We are all relaxed. =)
