12. The Healing Planet

Entering the uncharted territories turned even the stoutest of Hynerians into the equivalent of jiggy jello on a hot plate, which is to say, going uncontrollably everywhere and going there fast. The inhabitants of Bravo-Four-Zero had no choice, yet the fear of the unknown, the fear of childhood campfire horror stories, in short the fear that firmly rooted itself in the imagination, tended to suffocate it's victims like an anaconda with time on it's hands. Fear like this permeated every pore, turned the eyes bloodshot for no good reason, and warped judgment like wood left out in the rain too long.

No outside observer would have been surprised to learn that our friends attempted to land at the first planet that came into view. Later dubbed The Healing Planet, for the purplish waters had magical powers to heal all infirmities. A water world like their own Hynerian homeworld, our friends thought they had found their needle in the haystack. Passion fruit was consumed in quantities beyond legal limits as happiness and joy appointed themselves king and queen of the day.

There always seems to be a "however" about this time in the story as the happy couples soon discovered all was not as it seemed. Oh, the waters of The Healing Planet were in fact magical but as the old Hynerian proverb stated, Take what you want, and then pay for it, our friends soon realized that while the dark purplish waters certainly did heal, they also aged.

Just as the stars appeared to melt into the planet's lakes and oceans so too did a Hynerian appear to exchange life force, life years, in exchange for the healing properties. Had our four couples stayed, old age would have claimed them all within the year. Keep in mind a Hynerian's average life spanned centuries. The reign of happiness and joy were short lived as anger and fear rode in like barbarians to resume their rightful place. Within the hour, Bravo-Four-Zero headed back into deep space.

outstanding Trée, just outstanding

aren't you dead on your feet sweetie? Didn't think we would get a new one tonite, but its a great addition to the story (hugs)

See the pressure you guys put me under, I can't sleep, can't eat, driven by nightly deadlines to produce both fractals and prose. ;-)

Dead tired, I'm still working for you babe. :-)

Dead tired, I'm still working for you babe

don't know if I should feel bad or flattered LOL

either way, poor baby, I'm so sorry you didn't sleep well last nite. Makes for a long day. Anything I can do to make it better ;0)

Trée said...

Afraid the only thing that's going to help me tonight is some uninterrupted sleep.

Anonymous said...

well then that is my wish for you tonite :0) as many hours of uninterupted sleep as you need.

Trée said...

Thanks Trace. I'll be turning in early tonight. I do appreciate your very kind words. Thanks dear. :-)

Triple wow on the fractal!!!

Next episode of the story was worth the wait :-)

Thanks my dear sweet Sunshine. Thanks for snuggling with me earlier. :-)

i miss you too, bbb. we need to make a date. :o)

Trée said...

Ooooh, a date. Been a while since I had one of those. I might get a little nervous if that's okay. :-)

Trée,
thought you'd be in dreamland by now considering,
came back to wish you a restful night and pleasant dreams though you wouldn't have seen it before morning.
:-)

You must be at risk of falling asleep on you keyboard :)

Trée said...

Been putting off going to bed. Not sure why. Perhaps if you could come tuck me in that would be helpful. :-)

Anonymous said...

Sure, anything to help.
Even tell you a bedtime story, which would be bound to put you soundly to sleep ;)

Did you have a good day inspite?

Trée said...

In spite of no sleep, still had a good day. I received a wonderful email from a lady dealing with cancer that just made my day. Not sure why I need to be reminded so much how powerful and important just a few kind positive loving words can be.

Hurry over. Can't wait to hear your bedtime story. :-)

I just discovered I can post from Word to Blogger and use any of my Word fonts. Woohoo. Simply joys. :-)

Anonymous said...

Simple joys are the best. I won't even attempt it, though the spell check etc would be nice.

Things like that email, I imagine, just make the whole day worthwhile even if it had been shot to pieces.

I think, I'd tell you the one about The Diamond Curse.

Happy you had yourself a good day anyway, that's made my morning.

Trée said...

The Diamond Curse. Haven't heard that one. Mmm, sounds interesting. My eyes are getting sleepy so hurry sweetie.

Anonymous said...

Its a true story and much too long,
I'll save it for another time.
Instead, I shall come tuck you in, kiss you goodnight and I've no doubt, whatsoever,
you'd be asleep almost before your head hit the pillow. ;)
Nighty night, sleep tight.
x

Thanks A, I'm on my way to bed with a smile on my face. Lock up when you leave or heck, just stay the night. See you in about 8. Love, hugs and kisses sweetie.

Sweet dreams dear Tree man,
Thank you for the beautiful purple healing planet. Hope the green tea doesn't keep you awake.
love and kisses,

Trée- you are building a wondeful world here, and your fractals are getting really, really poetic. It's exciting to see you develop and grow!!

your story reminds me of Ursula Leguin. do you know her?

Anonymous said...

Tree, why does this story sound so familiar? It reminds me of a movie but I forget the title..its on the tip of my tongue darn it! I'll eventually remember it when I'm not concentrating on it so much..so what chapter on this story are we on?..:o)

Blessings,
Rhi

Well Tree You've got to eat, sleep and take care of yourself, don't let this control you now!

Great fractal. I am really enjoying the Hynerian saga :) Keep both the story and graphics coming!

Anonymous said...

Take what you want, and then pay for it

Now THAT's a proverb!

This is an incredible fractal. Likely your most a-f**king-mazing one yet.
Seriously though, the beauty of it brought tears to my eyes. There you go again, huh?

Have a good weekend my friend. Get some much needed sleep.
I'll be checking back. (And Hey...there no deadlines between friends, ok?)

Anonymous said...

good morning sweet Trée, I hope you got some much needed rest. (hugs)

have a good day my friend :0)

Ahhh, tranquility...

Have a great day. *HUGS*

Trée said...

Beard, that is a wonderful interpretation. Thanks for sharing my friend.

Sunshine, yes, a good night's sleep with lots of dreams. Believe it or not, Linny was in my dream. I was with her in her car and we were driving down a back road when all of a sudden the road ran right into a river. I tried to get her to jump out but she stayed in the car and the car floated. The river took us about two hours away from where we were and there were no bridges to get back to the other side. The rest of the dream was us trying to get back home. I'll spare you the rest of the details. Thanks for tucking me in--it worked. :-)

Trée said...

Garnet, your kind words are always appreciated. I'm afraid I don't know Ursula's work but I looked her up and she seems like a quite interesting writer. Is there a particular starting point to her work you would recommend? I'm in the mood for a little fiction in my life.

Trée said...

Rhi, I've used two concepts from the Farscape series. Rygel and Hynerians and "uncharted territories."

Outside of borrowing the two names the story here is 100% my imagination and bears no other relationship to the Farscape story or universe.

As to what chapter of the story we are on--lol--I have to smile. This story started with the single post "Caribbean Canopy." There was never any intention to expand the story, it just kinda happened, one post at a time.

I have no rhyme or reason to story-line and it could stop with any post. I let the fractal creation take the story forward assuming I create a fractal that bears some relationship to the context of the story. In hindsight, it looks like I'm creating something organized and planned, but actually that's not the case at all. I'm just having fun playing with my fractals and exercising my overactive imagination. As long as the fractals and my imagination cooperate, we may see a few or a lot more postings on the Hynerians, or perhaps the story is done.

Your words always warm my heart. Thanks Rhi. :-)

Trée said...

Thanks Dzeni. Seems this story has taken on a life of it's own. I'm as curious as anyone as to where we go next.

Trée said...

Aggie, you need to come over here so I can dry those eyes. :-)

Your comments are always so filled with enthusiasm I almost want to create a folder just to store them so I can read them over and over again. You are a blessing in my life. Check in when you can and enjoy the weekend with your dad. Hugs and kisses.

Trée said...

Trace, I did get a good night's sleep. Have a great day yourself and don't let the barbi nazi get you doing too many lunges. :-)

Trée said...

Awww, Karen, to see your smiling face in my comments always brings a smile to my face. Hard not to want to smile back at ya. Hugs to you too sweetie.

Greetings from Jack too. :-)

Anonymous said...

Glad to hear you had a good night :-)

Trée said...

Me too Sunshine, me too. :-)

Anonymous said...

barbi nazi get you doing too many lunges. :-) ROFL she is actually sitting right next to me in the computer lab right now, I'm sure she will have lunges on the agenda tomorrow, she loves them :0)

I am so glad you had a good nights rest

How's the day look?

Trée said...

Busy day work-wise. That's a good thing. :-)

Tell barbi I said hello. Does she own any plaid?

Anonymous said...

Does she own any plaid?
ROFL

hmmm don't know about that one, and I am not gonna ask LOL

Anonymous said...

Oh Trée I've got a request (and no it doesn't involve pictures or prose-not yours anyway LOL)

I finally finished reading "The Wonder of Presence", I have had no time to read for pleasure but I finally read the last few chapters (in my last class, tells ya how interesting that was LOL)

I'm actually going to have time to read for pleasure again so am looking for book recommendations :0)

thanks sweetie

Trée, hi :)
I seem to have missed so much, especially this 'Hynerian tale in pictures' of yours. It's lovely!
I was a big fan of Farscape so I'm really glad to see this. There's a huge smile on my face right now.
I wonder why you have chosen Hynerians of all races in that show???

Trée said...

Trace, what genre did you have in mind?

Trée said...

Melly, so good to see you commenting again. :-)

Hynerians chose me--lol. One of the early post I did in this series was based on a fractal that looked a lot like Rygel. So, I populated my island with his distance relatives. I guess if I had done a Peacekeeper fractal we'd be talking Peacekeepers right now--lol.

Melly, this is story telling driven my the whims of fractal creation. Since I never really know what the next fractal is going to be, I couldn't tell you were the story goes from here. By all means, do not look for rhyme or reason, it's not there. Just having some fun. No editors allowed--lmao.

Happy Holidays my fiction writing friend. :-)

Okay its middle of the day and it just hit me "Lost Horizons" where the people lived and never got old, similiar, but a bit different..thats the movie "story" I was thinking of..knew it would come to me when not concentrating.

Blessings,
Rhi

don't thats why I am looking for suggestions :0)

day going well?

Trée said...

Trace, for something very different try Dan Abnett's Eisenhorn.

My day is going very well dear. Thanks for asking. Did I read you were feeling less than well? And that you had classes til 5pm?

Trée said...

Hi Rhi. I'm not familar with Lost Horizons. My reading list is just getting longer and longer. :-)

Love, hugs and kisses to my blessed soul friend. :-)

Anonymous said...

thanks sweetie, I'll check it out, any and all things to add to my reading list are appreciated, I am always looking for a good read (hugs)

less than well is a good way to put it LOL and I am now home and officially playing hooky, my last class of the day is a total waste of time, and since it is the last class of the semester, not going to miss much :0)

That is the prettiest one ever. I love the purple - in fact I'm wearing a purple sweater today that is the same royal color. I like it :-) Don't like the aging part though... LOL seems a bit close to home.

Trée said...

Terry, so glad you liked this one. Purple may be my favorite color, which is probably why you see me use it so much. Somehow I think you are aging like fine wine, better and better with every passing year. In case you missed it on the other post: Happy belated Birthday!!!

Anonymous said...

that pic is just beautiful

Trée said...

Thanks Ciera. Seems many feel this is the prettiest one I've done so far.

I have had this on my desktop since last night, it is just stunning, and at that size the depth, relfection and movement of the piece is just fab. :0)

I just wanted to say good night, I have about had it for today. Hope you have a good rest of the evening and sleep well. (hugs)
