443. One Year Ago

One year ago, the crew of Bravo had their first karaoke night before Yul headed to hospital and Kyra embarked on the ill-fated rescue mission--the first time since leaving Hyneria the crew would be separated. On the anniversary of that occasion and the eve of another mission into harm's way, the crew again has gathered with shot glasses eight (plus three) and song. Rog took the mic first, hair long and with guitar (don't ask), and looked over the crowd as a single spotlight held him as in suspended animation. With everyone's attention, he nodded to Von, and as the music started to play, looked at Yul and said, "Breathe out."

Lyrics: Everlong (Foo Fighters)

Hello
I've waited here for you
Everlong

Tonight
I throw myself into
And out of the red, out of her head she sang

Come down
And waste away with me
Down with me

Slow how
You wanted it to be
I'm over my head, out of her head she sang
Chorus-

And I wonder
When I sing along with you (Yul is singing along here--in a world of her own)
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again

The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
She sang
Verse 2-

Breathe out
So I could breathe you in
Hold you in

And now
I know you've always been
Out of your head, out of my head I sang
Chorus-

And I wonder
When I sing along with you
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again

The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
She sang
Chorus-

And I wonder
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again

The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
She sang

His sweaty visage came to rest and his eyes found hers as a king finds his queen across a crowded court. Yul looked like a doe, standing in a pool of joy, blue rivers running from her fawnish glossy eyes. Her melanic leathered chest heaved as a balloon about to burst before she remembered--breathe out. From darkness to light, with a canorous quiver of lip, she spoke through the haze, her words riding a hush in the room like a cool breeze, "I promise." And in the space of a snapshot, time paused.

C wanted to see the Foo Fighters for his birthday (he turns 14) so the two of us attended the concert last Saturday in Nashville, father and son, his first concert, memories of a lifetime for me. I'll just say this. Dave, Taylor and The Foo are the real deal. When they sang Everlong, and the entire sold-out crowd erupted and sang along, the experience was just short of spiritual. And I knew. I knew in that moment that Rog would sing this song to Yul. Enjoy. :-)

The Foo Fighters are great! I've never really been into that kind of music but I saw them in an outdoor concert and they were amazing. So talented! xx

Elise, before last Saturday I was only vaguely familiar with a couple of their songs and owned none of them. I only went to the concert to have an experience with my son and honor his birthday wish. I arrived with no expectations. There were two opening acts, which we sat politely through their sets. And then, when Dave walked out on stage, looking like Jesus with a guitar (long hair as in this video, same baby blue guitar around his neck, a single spotlight highlighting him) the crowd stood. Two some hours later, we sat again, in my car. The entire crowd stood for the entire two hour concert. As you can probably tell, I've become a fan. ;-)

Trée, that was so good. I never heard that song before. Hugs you, hugs you with a smile on my face.

I'll be back in a little bit when I'm situated with the laptop. For storytime. :-D

O, just seeing a comment from you brightens my day like ten thousand suns. Your spirit and the beauty of your soul stirs my heart like few others. Thank you My Dear Beautiful Soul.

That is a badass song, indubitably. One of the very best. Interesting that your characters make use of the lyrics like that. It's a direction my story will be taking in not too long...

Tom, music is a huge part of this story, usually in an iceberg below the ocean sort of way in that I am always listening to something and many times a song unlocks a vision of what is happening. Very few chapters are written without music. Thanks for the kind words and I agree, this is a kickarse song. :-D

I can't watch the vid now cos I'm on the computers at school, but I promise to come back and view what you have posted, as I SO do love both videos, the Foo, Dave Grohl, and all things rock 'n' roll.

I'm so glad to hear you had such a great time at the show again. Live music is one of my most favourite past times, indeed.

Dave Grohl makes me salivate.

So do you.

And so does Rog.

And also Yul.

So, I think I need to be wearing a bib when I come reading over here these days....

I'll see what I can do.

I could always find other uses for my oral secretions.

Strumper, I still can't get the vision of a shot of Patron nestled between your creamy amplitude and me with a shaker of salt in my hands. :-D

That is SO FRAILING SO! You have no idea. :-D

Hurry home. I'll be waiting. El be damned! LOL

Mr. Tree,

I don't think I'm ever going to look at a salt shaker in quite the same way again.

Though, my own set of salt and pepper shakers are two pink bunnies.

When apart, one bunny is on all fours, like any normal bunny on all fours.

The other bunny is up on his hind legs.

When placed together, the bunny on his hind legs fits quite snuggly from behind upon the other bunny that is on all fours,... cos they're fucking.

Of course, I always keep them in the fucking position.

Cos that's what rabbits like to do and all. They're so cute.

I will be on the El shortly, actually. But, I have errands to run.

Bleh.

Hope you are having much fun, Tree Man.

xoxo

:-D, :-D, :-D

There is only one Strumper, of that I'm abSO-frailing-lutely sure! You make me smile in ways few do. Think I'll go get my bib too. :-D

Rog. :-) Still more than ever, hearing him breathe these words, watching him in that solitary spotlight, the air pulsating around him, his voice vibrating on the air, his breath flowing out into the room, his words flowing into Yul, whether this is what you wrote or simply what I saw, I am not sure, thinking mostly of that one light. Proper and yet so strange that a year has passed since the last time he sang for this audience (plus 3), I think back on all that has happened since then, when their connection was close to being severed, the promise that he would be there always and having to break it not long after and just how much they are to have withstood and come through that. These two have each other and it is shown here at it's best. Perfect song, perfect chapter. Nuf said, really, I'm just floating on the words, on the atmosphere, on happiness, on the breath between them.

My hands, among other things. But, most of all, Milasysa, I think she has wrapped her little finger around my imagination. :-D

Sweetest, that relationship, Rog and Yul, and all they have suffered and survived, from chapel to hospital to confrontation to confession to reconcilation--wow, the journey has been nothing short of magnificent. Sometimes I forget just how much these characters have done and experienced and just how much they have crawled inside my head and heart. And to think, just a couple years ago, none of them existed. :-)

As always my dear sweetest one, your kind words warm my heart as surely as the fire before my feet and the sun above my head. Thank you. :-)

Thank you Annie. :-) I've been in love with this story and these characters for more than two years. I can't imagine life without them.

Here you go,

canorous \kuh-NOR-us; KAN-or-uhs\, adjective:

Richly melodious; pleasant sounding; musical.

Strumper, you are SO bad. And I do mean SO. :-D

Please ma'am, may I have another. :-D

T- You have a 14 year old son? Hard to believe - but I'm sure you're a great dad. Thanks for stopping by to see me and the girls. I'll have to play the Foo Fighters in the barn when I muck and see if they like it. Silk loves music. Yes, breathe out - it makes breathing in feel so much better, doesn't it?

Trée said...

Victoria, I am 44. I'll take your comment as a wonderful compliment. :-)

Let me know if the girls like The Foo--start with Everlong. If they like that one, I've got several more I'd think they'd like too. You've got beautiful horses. I'm living vicariously through you--so keep those pictures coming. :-)

And yes, breathing out helps. :-D
