437. Ocular Symbiosis

Em sat, back straight and tongue silent, a posture defiant or embarrassed could not be said. Dr X examined first the left eye and then the right, reviewing the data twice before entering a few notes into his slate.

+I'm not going to ask you any questions.+

Em remained silent of tongue and thought. She could feel his warm honeysuckle presence sitting gently within her mind, thankful he was not probing.

+You don't have to say or think anything. You've done no damage, but I will need to replace your bandages and we will need to wait a few more days to allow symbiosis to root. If you believe in Janus, a prayer or two wouldn't hurt.+

Em nodded.

Dr X secured the final bandage. He placed his hand on hers. +If you prematurely remove the bandages again, you'll risk ever seeing again. Do you understand?+

+Thank you Dr. Am I free to go?+

+Always.+

For those new to the story, dialogue that occurs between "+" marks is telepathic.

This fractal couldn't be more perfect for the chapter. :-) I'm still not quite comfortable with Dr X, though I shall love him forever for saving Yul, I'm just not sure given his early treatment of Mairi that we should trust him. Still, it seems to matter to him whether Em sees again or not and so long as he is providing care that nobody else is capable of, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. ;-)
Poor Em, poor Trev too, so close to finding each other completely only to have circumstance put a spanner in the works that are yet not strong enough to bear such interference. Em has certainly had a rough time of it lately, not more so than some of the other characters, but she has though she is stronger than one/others might think, she seems frail somehow, and I hope that at least one of the two outcomes (Trev & her sight) is a happy one for her. Whether she could bear the loss of both, I again am not certain. Excellent little chapter, Poppet, once again a longing surfaces to put ones arms around one of your characters.

Only just found the site... What a truly brilliant idea you have here! Though I'm sure I'm not the first to say it.

I'm writing my own post-per-day fiction too, but without the graphics!

Tom, thanks for stopping by. Hope to see you around again.

Miladysa, if I had known you guys had gone to the doctor today, I wouldn't have written this chapter. Thanks as always for checking in. :-)

Em is stronger than we know. ;-)

This chapter and the one below exist because of the images, both of which were created today and as soon as I saw them knew they needed into the story right away. Without the images, these chapters don't exist. Part of what I love about this story--I never quite know what is going to happen next, at least until the next image tells me. :-D

As always Sweetest, your comments rock! :-)

Trée - Bless! Keep writing and do not let anything stop you - apart from sleep - and only if you must :)

Miladysa, as you command. ;-)

Ooooo....

I think I like Dr. X and his warm honeysuckle presence...

But, then I read Autumn Storm's comment and I get scared.

I do have a problem with trusting too easily.

Strump, pull your panties down and I'll show you the meaning of trust. :-D

Oh, Swoonlicious Mr. Tree....

They're down.

They're on the floor.

I'll leave them there for you when we're done playing.

Have I told you lately you're the best Strumpet I know? With or without panties. :-D

"She could feel his warm honeysuckle presence sitting gently within her mind" That feeling is so familiar...

Tree, what i love about your writing is the unique expression. One can savor not just each word but each thought in its entirety ! That is what I do here, taking my time 'feeling' each post and relating!

Moreover some of your expressions are so profound and meaningful and thought provoking and haunting. Like the last part of the conversation in this:

+Thank you Dr. Am I free to go?+

+Always.+

Mona, when you pick up on the nuances of my writing, like you are doing here, I am flattered more than I know to say. Your engagement of the writing, reading it as it was meant to be read--slowly, word by word, out loud (I write with the attention of how a sentence sounds as it rolls off the tongue--I try to write such that the sentences flow like rivers into the ocean of the paragraph). That you notice and appreciate these things just motivates me so much. I should be turning off the computer and going to sleep, but your comments have me enthralled and my mind is racing. Thank you again my Indian Jewel.
