221. Bury It

“John, tell me what you want me to do,” said Tom.

“What would you do if you were in my shoes?”

“Bury it.”

John looked at Tom and echoed back his words as if trying to comprehend what emotion would emerge, what part of his soul would reveal itself if he gave the order. “Bury it.”

“Is that an order sir?”

My god thought John. Is this what I have become. “How certain are we?”

“No doubt.”

John weighted Tom’s answer with the blank face of one knowing the answer but still in the vague fuzzy space of hoping against hope the grade would be different.

“And Bravo?”

“Jammed.”

“Really?” asked John, raising his eyebrows and rubbing his neck as if he could feel the imaginary yoke of command. “On whose orders?” Before Tom could respond, John quickly added, “Never mind. It is what it is.”

__________

“What is it Trev?” asked Kyra.

“Not sure, but I think you better get down here,” said Trev, a strange excitement in his voice.

“Be right there Trev.” Kyra looked at Von and he looked back at her. “You ready for a little more drama?”

“Opportunity my dear,” smiled Von. “How would your Papa put it?”

“Be like yellow,” Kyra smiled back. “Be like yellow.”

On the bridge Trev was huddled over the communications panel, earphones on, face cherubic. "What you got Trev?"

Handing Kyra the headphones he said, "Listen to this and tell me what you hear?"

Kyra looked at Trev and then to Von and back to Trev. "Could you play that again and boost the signal."

Trev did.

"Holy mother of Janus," exclaimed Kyra, showing a rare display of untethered public excitement. "Is this what I think it is?"

"Hard to say," said Trev. "But I think we got some work to do."

"Do it." said Kyra. "And as soon as you have anything, anything at all, comm me. Understood?"

"Yes ma'am."

Kyra turned to leave. "Oh Kyra, one more thing."

"Yes Trev?"

"Our friends tried to jam this signal. In fact they still are."

"Really?"

Fabulous fractal, as the others have been!

I told you yesterday, I was already on the edge of my seat. I darned near fell of reading this piece full of mystery that it is. Questions, I have a ton, but I shall be a good girl and wait patiently for the next snippet. :-)

Unless I am mistaken, it appears that John and Kyra believe the other is jamming the signal, which is rather interesting given recent events, what they must be thinking. Love how you have them both questioning the information received in the same manner.

Again, a job fabulously well done.

Trée said...

Sunshine, lots going on here, as you mention. I like the sense of both John and Kyra questioning the information but having very different reactions to what it could be. Again, it puts their interests at odds. So we have that, and I suspect Kyra is on a beeline to see her friend John right now. Expect some fireworks in that confrontation. :-D

Now, the other hanging question, to state the obvious, what is this signal, who is sending it and why would Tom jam it and why would Bravo be so excited. I think there are two options. This signal is either coming from on-planet, perhaps from Mairi. Or, and put this in your pipe and smoke it, this signal could be coming from somewhere else. :-D

Well, now you are being just plain wicked. LOL

Just wondering how you come up with these conversations. Do you related to some part of your past experience?

Trée said...

Causalien, no one has ever asked me that question with regard to the "conversations," which I'm assuming you to mean the actual dialogue between characters (that is, what is said and how it is said).

When I write dialogue I try to do or keep a few things in mind. (1) I try and put myself in the shoes of each character and I read aloud what I am having them say to check for two things: (a) would that character actually say that(general content); (b) is the dialogue what I call "real" (in other words, does it look like a conversation that could have realistically happened in this context). As I'm writing, I will read aloud the conversation to check if it sounds "funny" or if I could really see someone saying this the way they are saying it. I'm also looking for clues and reactions within me that tell me what they are feeling and what that character may or may not say next, so I suppose in that regard, everything anyone in this story says is a part of me, of my ability to visualize. Parts, perhaps, come from interchanges I have had or witnessed, and parts are just me and my imagination, as if I'm a good friend of the characters and know how they might respond in a given situation.

With regard to your overall question, I'm not sure anyone can write anything without relying on their own individual life experiences and world-view. I believe strongly that the only thing that can come out of you is what is in you. I do not believe we are puppets and others make us do things. My two cents. :-D

Thanks for stopping by. Good question. :-)

Sunshine, yes I am. To be good at wickedness, one much practice wickedness, and I do like to practice. I have that stool ready and waiting by the way.

Hey Uma, so good to see you again. Hope you have fun catching up. I leave tomorrow for a two week business trip and not sure how much updating I'll be able to do from the road. As always, thanks for the kind words. :-)

I wanna bury one day in my past...how do I do that?

Keshi.

Trée said...

I don't know Keshi. I could spill forth a bunch of fancy advice but it would all be just this side of bullshiott. Now, if you want to forget for a bit or two, well, I have some ideas on how to that. Meet me at the bridge. Oh, and Keshi, don't look back. ;-)

You know the patterns one makes with sparklers in the dark? I see an adult version here...

Sunshine, missing you too. Has it been two weeks yet because it sure seems that way.

Trée said...

Thanks Meg. Always, always good to be missed. My fear is that if I stopped posting no one would care. I know that is not true, but fears are seldom rationally. Thanks for those sweet, kind words. Much appreciated.

Trée said...

How bout rational or logical. :-D

Trée said...

Oh Chicky, I like the way you think. :-)

Trée said...

Keshi, anytime you're ready.

What are you, nuts? Addled? Been smoking the whacky tobaccy? You are funny my friend. If you stopped posting we would all collapse with despair. In fact, it just isn't to be allowed ever. Sorry - but your writing is no longer your own. You have a duty to your fans. (ha ha - ever see the movie Misery?) Must... have... more....

So there - understand?

Trée said...

Just working too hard. :-D

I don't ask for my fears nor do I give them full run of the ranch. Wasn't fishing either, just feeling a bit vulnerable at the moment. Having said that, your very kind words are very much appreciated. Thanks Terry.

Comment est-ce que tu crées ces images Trée?

Trée said...

J'emploie un programme appelé Apophysis. Et vous aussi pouvez créer de belles images. L'Apophysis et toi de Google le trouverez.

Sorry for my poor attempt at French. If this makes no sense, ask me again in English. :-D

Autumn Storm said...

Terry is right, sweetie, in what she says. Without DT and you, blogland would be missing a very important part of what makes it such a wonderful place to come visit for a time.

So glad to see you have access. 12 days with no word was a prospect almost too hard to bear. If you can, leave us a smile a day here, just so we know all is well in your world. For that reason, and just because I do so adore that smile of yours. :-)
Sweet dreams and happy day ahead.
Love and hugs, x

Trée said...

Thank you Sweetest for those very kind words. What I know and what I fear don't always match up, such is the nature of fear. The good news is I have access. Woohoo! Meetings like this, however, consume your time and suck the energy out of you. I started on a new chapter last night, but wasn't really happy with what I wrote, hence you don't see anything new here. If I can put together a decent chapter while I'm here, I'll post it. Until then, I've got a few images in reserve that I'll post on Trebuchet. Thanks for checking in on me. :-)

Fortune did indeed smile. Wooooohoooo. :-D Don't work too hard, and no worries, leave one when you can. Love to you, poppet, still missing you to the moon and back, but it's so good to have heard from you - and am looking forward to those Trebuchet updates, xoxo

Trée said...

Meg, missing you too. Always feels strange when I go on the road and sit in meetings all day long and don't have access to blogland. Life is good hear. Thanks for checking in. :-)

Trée said...

Oh Karen, you know what is so funny, since I know what is probably going to happen for the next several chapters I never feel like anything is hanging. :-D

Well, Jack wasn't happy with that last bit. :-D

Trée said...

Sunshine, I'll do what I can. Seems like it has been forever. Poppet says hello. He thinks you would like So Cal and the beaches here. :-)

Karen said...

What?? Nothing hanging?? Now that's just wrong.............. Tell Jack to relax............ *snicker* Hey - you left that wide open. ;-D

You love teasing us all, I know your plan. LOL
