464. Walking Into History

John was gone, as gone as Papa, as gone as Kieran, as gone as everyone who thought she was the answer.

"Ms Kyra, Zoe is here," said Goldie.

"Send her in."

"Yes Ms Kyra."

Zoe walked into Kyra's quarters as one walks into history. She stood as two, locks golden, belly glowing, a Silus dusted package, worn with love, in her hands. Across the room, which seemed as if the view was across a lake of time, stood the melanic one, lithe, firm, tight, larger than life yet smaller than imagined.

"Join me," said Kyra without turning, her view, as often, upon the wonder of a deceiving universe. "I suppose over the last two years you've seen sights more glorious than this one."

"We saw our share."

"Never ceases to amaze does it?"

Zoe didn't answer.

I was tempted to write more, to finish the visit, but those last three words screamed at me to stop, to give them their due. So I listened. A moment of silence please. :-D

Tree, I have missed out so much on this & I have no idea who zoe is...

Larger than life yet smaller than imagined...Indeed imagination has larger vistas than larger than life itself...It is limitless...

That fractal is amazing. It is like one of the visions I had during meditation...'The piling up of zeros' I call it...

Mona, Zoe is Ceru's mate and is carrying his baby. She is the only survivor from the Dyad. Always nice to see you stopping by. Your comments always give me food for thought. Glad you liked the image. :-)

By the way, I thought you might like the word play with the choosing of the names "Dyad" for the vessel and "Zoe" for the one carrying life. Nothing by accident. ;-)

Although this at first appears a rather tranquil chapter I sense an air of tension... is it just me?

There is a subtle tension. Here are a few things:

(1) Zoe is a reminder of things past; if she is here, who else could have been

(2) the baby; quite a concern for most of the females on Bravo, mostly Em, but also Kyra

(3) Zoe hasn't had time to grieve for Ceru and as Kyra references the view and the past, Zoe is brought back to what she no longer has

Could be some more stuff going on that I don't know yet. :-D

There is one other interesting and very subtle tension: the package. Zoe has something from Papa. Kyra doesn't know Zoe all that well. That she has something that Papa touched, that she knew Papa after Kyra had evacuated, well, the emotions around that package and what it means is rather complex. I'm not sure Kyra could explain it other than a sense of uneasiness in the relationship as it stands.

Frissions of excitement at what is to come, silus dusted, nice stitching back to times that were, to the past and common ground as you have mentioned in comments there and mostly seen from where the story stops with Zoe not answering. It is this more than anything that brings forth the sense of tension, where one might otherwise focus on the happy occasions (bitter-sweet though it may be in some respects) of the package and the pregnancy. Very much a now and then, and future chapter, as the two meet. With the package, but also for the recent chapters pertaining to Von, his loss and gain, it has been so focused on the three of them (four) that there has been little space to ponder in detail the question not only of whom else was on the Dyad, but the reminder that it serves also of other ships, their fate, and the fate of the Bravo crew's loved ones. Papa, of course, but due to the partial dock story of Rog, Chaz always comes to my mind first in this regard.

Find the very first sentence perhaps the most interesting within. To my mind, it has been the greatest admission on Kyra's part that John means something to her, reading too much between the lines perhaps, in as gone as but how sad and regretful it sounds.
Wonderful imagery as always, like a ray of sunshine pouring into a darkened room is what the passage locks golden, belly glowing, a Silus dusted package, worn with love, in her hands appears like. Kyra with her back turned staring out into the universe and Zoe bobbing, not sure where bobbing came from perhaps from the dock, golden, glowing, a package of love in her hand that has travelled so far, never knowing if it would reach it's destination and Kyra is unaware, ignorant of the fact that Zoe is about to bestow this precious gift upon her. Regardless of her own loss, perhaps even in spite of it, how filled with joy she must have felt upon entering Kyra's quarters knowing that what she was bringing would mean and then she is stopped short, reminded of the difference between the two. Kyra still has the hope, where Zoe does not. Wonderful chapter, my eyes keep drifting back to a Silus dusted package, worn with love, beautiful and simple and perfect.
