Apophysis: 自殺

If you keep thinking "That man has abused me," holding it as a much-cherished grievance, your anger will never be allayed. If you can put down that fury-inducing thought, your anger will lessen. Fury will never end fury, it will just ricochet on and on. Only putting it down will end such an abysmal state.

Liz, the photo below I took last fall to capture some of the local color here in Tennessee. I manipulated the image to look like a Japanese woodblock work. I actually have a 8.5 x 11" framed image of this one in my office, which I keep right next to my calendar. I just love the effect.

This takes me back to first grade, when art was getting postcard prints from fine museums and learning about them. Then pasting them in a scrapbook and trying to copy them. (she shakes her head) The painting was The Great Wave by Hokusai.

I am fascinated by how the points of the wave look like angry fingers trying to grab for me. Yet I am safe because I watch from outside their reach.

Trée said...

Liz, that's incredible. I used Japanese for the title of this one "自殺" for the exact reason that this image reminded me of "The Great Wave."

I've actually played with this image in Photoshop to see if I could make it look more like a traditional Japanese woodblock print. I haven't quite got the right look so the image you see on the blog is the original image with a slight adjust in contrast.

My wall calendar, btw, is the work of Kawase Hasui (1883-1957), one of the more prominent shin hanga artists to work with the renowned publisher Shozaburo Watanabe.

I just love Japanese woodblock prints. I find so much peace and beauty in them.

so true

I love the leaves pic, just beautiful

Thanks mergrl. It's one of my fav "manipulated" photos I've taken. This tree, believe it or not, is in the parking lot of an office park. Last year I was driving down a main road and this tree and it's color caught my eye. I happened to have my digital elph on me, so I stop and took a few photos.

When I got home, I cropped out the parking lot and other distracting elements and just focused in on the leaves and colors. Once I had it cropped I played with the "woodblock" look till I had something I liked. Thus, the photo you now see.

Glad you liked it. :-)

Tree, I'd like to ask a favour. I would like to use one of your fractals as inspiration for a bit of writing, Is this possible? Cuz I usually post the pic that gave me the inspiration.

Trée said...

Dawn thanks for asking and yes, by all means feel free to use whichever image you like.

Now you have me curious. Which of the fractals has struck your fancy?

Hope you are having a great Friday. :-)

Anonymous said...

Tis the one I said reminded me of how a snowflake forms.

I'll prolly end up turning it into something dark and scare the crap outta myself again lol.

And just to let you know, my friday has gone to pot lol, I have a trojan Virus that's low risk but I can't get rid of it. Any help would be appreciated.

Trée said...

Dawn, not sure which anti-virus programs you are using but I've had good success with AVG, which has a freeware version.

Google "AVG antivirus" and you will find it. AVG is pretty good at dealing with Trojans and it's free. I would try that first and if the Trojan is still there, then we can look at other options.

Hoping your day goes better.

Anonymous said...

I'm using macafee Tree, but no matter how many times I run the scan the damn Virus comes back, the name of it is New Malware.u, and I've tried googling for removal things, but I dun seem to be able to find anything. Macafee is useless I swear!
I'm almost ready to throw ma PC out the nearest window!

Trée said...

Dawn, the trojan may be wrapped up in spyware, which is why an antivirus program like Mcafee, or AVG for that matter, won't detect them.

Try this: Go to the Webroot website and download the 30 day trial for Spy Sweeper. For 30 days you get the full functioning program. IMHO, this is the best spyware program on the market.

Try that and let's see what happens. Forget AVG for now.

I've been feasting my eyes on many fall pictures lately, but this one makes me just form an "O" with my mouth in awe of the beauty.

Trée said...

Terry, what a wonderful thing to say. You caused my cheekbones to defy gravity for a good 30 seconds and that is a wonderful thing to be able to effect in another.

Hugs and kisses for your comment! :-)

Anonymous said...

Following these comments isn't easy :-), so I'm just going to say I really like both images, the fractal and the autumn leaves.
Headache all gone?
Today making up for the last couple?

Anonymous said...

McAfee is detecting them, and I can quarantine the infected files and delete them, but then it comes back on me. Grrrr, I've downloaded AVG and it detected the files, so I healed them, (which McAfee refused to do, and am running a scan now to see if it worked.

Keep your fingers crossed for me :o)

Trée said...

No headache today A! It is Friday, so perhaps that is helping matters. :-)

As always your kind words are very much appreciated. Sounds like your day got off to a very good start. Excellent post, by the way. Thanks for the sunshine. :-)

Trée said...

Dawn, sounds like a spyware file is self-generating the trojan. If I'm right, no matter how many times you delete the virus, it will continue to come back as long as the spyware file is still lurking about.

If the healing process doesn't work, then go to the next step, which is Spy Sweeper to hopefully dig this little beotch out by the roots. Keep me updated on how it goes.

I forgot to mention the quote, which puts quite succinctly into words a reaction that many of us unfortunately cannot help but have. It's terribly hard to let go of anger, despite knowing it does oneself no good and only empowers the other person. Much, much easier said than done, but I guess, one just has to keep on trying until there is success.
Can't find that elusive peace of mind with anger in residence.

Trée said...

Peace is every step as Thich likes to say. If it were easy, he wouldn't have to write book after book about it ;-)

Did you find anything in the fridge or do I need to make a run to the store?

Anonymous said...

No, I don't think so. Looks like there are quite a few treats lurking at the back here. Would you happen to have any chocolate?

Trée said...

Oh, did you not notice the open box of chocolates on the coffee table. I've had a few this morning but please help yourself. And coffee sounds like a wonderful idea.

Anonymous said...

Isn't it always?! Do let me know, if wrestling will be required, won't you :-)

Anonymous said...

Tree, bad news, Spy sweeper didn't work :(

Dunno what else to do

Trée said...

A, I believe in sharing so I don' think wrestling will be necessary. However, we might need to practice a few moves since the rest of the world is not as friendly and open-minded as me. Just want you to be prepared you know.

Trée said...

Dawn, you could try Ad-Aware SE Personal. This is another free spyware program that may catch what you've got. The only other thing I can think of is to continue to Google the name of the trojan and read the messages boards. Someone out there has had this problem and posted an answer.

If I run across an answer I'll let you know and likewise if you figure out how to fix it, post the answer here.

I wish I could be of more help. :-(

Anonymous said...

Trée, we've already established practice makes perfect, so any wrestling moves you want to show me, I'm ready to be shown.
Just be careful where you put your hands, I'm very, very ticklish :-)

Trée said...

A, I need you to assume the classic wrestling position, which is on all fours. We'll start our first lesson from there. Chop, chop.

Anonymous said...

Ready. Lead on...

Trée said...

First things first. Proper position is very important. Your hips are rotated just a little too much on a downward angle. This compromises your core stability. Not good. Rotate those hips up!

Anonymous said...

Tree, thanks for all your help and comments today. However I've come to one final conclusion.

Reformat. This will have to wait till Jeff gets home because I don't have a CLUE when it comes to reformatting. In the meantime I CAN start saving all my pictures to disc and hopefully I'll be up and running again tomorrow.

Take care and many thanks again.

Trée said...

Dawn, sorry to hear that. I wish I was there, not that that would somehow give me the magic answer, but I'm a visual person and just sitting at your computer . . . well, see if Jeff has any ideas before you reformat. Fingers crossed.

Anonymous said...

Up, you say. How high? :-)
I would estimate, they are at about a 70 degree angle, good enough?

Trée said...

Forget height and concentrate on angle. Wrong angle and your sense of control evaporates. 70 degrees is good; however, I see your knees are too close together. Spread those legs just a bit for better balance.

Anonymous said...

Now what am I suppose to say to that? :-)
Except perhaps 'Yes, Sir!'

Trée said...

Good answer. I didn't want to have to grab your hair to get your attention. Hair grabbing is for later. One never wants to grab the hair too soon since this can lead a major deduction in points. As with most things timing is important.

Now, just a little wider please. And careful not to lose the angle as you spread--this is very important.

Anonymous said...

Hair pulling...so you are not beyond using a little rough to get your way. I will bear that in mind.
I'll follow your lead, just be watchful, for all you know playing dutiful could be an act.

Trée said...

I found hair pulling in some of my old notes. Perhaps we need to revisit your rubbing skills since I was under the impression you were going to erase all erroneous information in those notepads.

I know I'm dealing with a very sly and bright, switched-on student, so I suspected the hair pulling was left in on purpose. Non?

Anonymous said...

Did I say I minded the rough?
Your notepads are accurate thus far, you are just missing a whole load of information - but there's still time to remedy this fact. Just make sure you keep your pencil sharpened and ready at all times - you never know when it might be time to grab it.

Trée said...

I might need some help with knowing the proper "time to grab it." Lessons are hard to come by, and I wouldn't want to miss the moment in which these hard lessons arise because of lack of skill.

You seem to have some expertise in this matter do you not?

Anonymous said...

I can understand that, so how about until we figure something else out, I just shout "Now" when it's time. Sound workable?

Anonymous said...

You know, I've been on my hands and knees for quite a while now adjusting angles and what not, when does the practical part of this lesson commence?

Trée said...

Abso-f***ing-lutely!

Trée said...

How 'bout NOW. ;-)

Anonymous said...

Ok, then, all the angles are right, what would be your move? Flip me over onto my back or hold me in a lock where I am?

Trée said...

Time for me to assume the proper position for lesson #1.

My left hand holds your left wrist. My right hand goes around your waist and my right leg goes between your legs.

You should feel contact at three points now.

Trée said...

Actually, protocol dictates that you make the first move.

Anonymous said...

At the very least.
Don't forget you will have to make allowances for the fact I am female. If you normally are forceful and subdue your wrestling partner purely on strength, this method will not work for me, unless I'm wrestling another woman. If we are talking sly tricks and the element of surprise on the other hand, then that is something I can use on anyone.

All this for the coffee- and orange creams ;-)

Anonymous said...

Ah, so it does, wait for it.

Trée said...

While you are planning your move, I'm going to grab dinner. Take your time. The first move is always the most important one.

Anonymous said...

Ok, from that position, I would flip my right foot over the opponents, in this case your, right leg to keep it in that position. I would then wrap my left leg up around your back simultaneously twisting my body, so that my left arm winds around your neck. From this position, I should be able to pull you over onto your side. From there, it shouldn't take more than a small push to flip you onto your back and I'd be a winner.
Well, I think so, what do you think. Would that work?

Anonymous said...

The colors are so beautiful on this one I almost started tearing up.

Trée said...

Wow, I've made girls cry before but never from a work of fractal art. :-)

Those are awfully sweet words neonalune. I'll take 'em.

Trée said...

A, if I could get you on top of me like that, I would let you call yourself whatever you wanted. :-)

Anonymous said...

Hmm, the Conqueror has a certain ring to it :-)
Though the move does have one flaw, which I am quite surprised you didn't spot - it would require you to willingly give up your hold on my wrist, still I'm sure I could persuade you with a few choice words.

Nighty night - Wish me pleasant dreams.

Trée said...

Sometimes one must give in order to get. No flaw, just design :-)

Sweet dreams Sunshine.

Anonymous said...

HaHa--sounds like you two are having fun. Sorry to interrupt, I'll close the door and go back downstairs. :)

Very pretty fractal, and I just looove the fall leaves picture. Makes me want to go for a walk outside. The weather here is perfect, but we don't have those kinds of pretty colors.

Trée said...

k, no need to leave. I think I wore A out with the wrestling practice since she claimed exhaustion and headed off to nite nite land. :-)

Anonymous said...

dang I spend all day in the lab and miss all the fun :0)

Anonymous said...

Looks as though I arrived just in time, then. :)

Trée said...

mergrl, got to be careful with that all work no play stuff. :-)

Trée said...

k, your timing is very good. ;-)

How was your day.

Anonymous said...

you got that right, I have got to get some R&R soon. Its getting to be about that time of year when I need a vacation or I'll be at the giggling academy by Christmas :0) ah the joys life.

Trée said...

Did you ever buy that suntan oil?

Anonymous said...

LOL I always keep it on hand, just in case

Trée said...

Mmm, on hand, I like the sound of that. :-)

Anonymous said...

Just fine, better now!
Yours?

Trée said...

Much better day today k. No headache(s)--lol.

Oh, I was in the kitchen at lunchtime but I didn't see you. Did you skip lunch today? I cleaned the table off and everything. :-)

Anonymous said...

:0)

Trée said...

One of my favorite sounds is the sound of two hands rubbing oil or lotion together, warming the oil or lotion prior to application. Maybe it's just the association thing going on--lol.

Anonymous said...

mmmmmm yeah, warm is a must

Trée said...

mergrl, only the inexperienced apply cold lotion. Tends to have the same effect as cold water. :-)

Anonymous said...

can't have that now can we :0)

Trée said...

Abso-f***ing-lutely not!

LMAO :-)

Anonymous said...

:0)

Trée said...

Let me know when the oil has reached the right temperture. ;-)

Anonymous said...

rubbing hands together now :0)

Trée said...

Music to my ears. Life's little, or perhaps not so little, pleasures. :-)

Anonymous said...

and with that tasty thought, I am off to dreamland, finished my work for tonite and time to shut it down.

Sweet dreams Tree, hope you have a good nite :0)

Trée said...

Sweet dreams mergrl. :-)

Anonymous said...

Thanks for cleaning the table off--saved me the work. :o)

Trée said...

k, no problem. Never know when you might have guest over. Don't want anything slowing me down, esp at lunchtime. :-)

Anonymous said...

Ok...I've now had to set the tree (um, that's with no accent aigu) pic as my wallpaper. Now everytime I walk past this room I'm just gonna stop and gaze at the monitor and be stuck at the door. How sad.

Trée said...

Oh Holly, you are making the leaves on my tree shake with delight. :-)

Has anyone told you that you have a very special way with words? When I see you've posted a comment it brings a smile to my face to think of what you may had said. Hoping you are having a wonderful Saturday. :-)

Anonymous said...

I like both of these very much. The first one look almost as red coral as seen above the rolling ocean reef.

Anonymous said...

Gosh and we've only just met! Sort of! Man...you must be exceptionally charming with all the ladies...as I can read ;-)

P.S. I have a great big grin on my face too when I see you've left a comment for me...but don't tell anyone.

Trée said...

Holly, now you're making me blush. I'm just the moon reflecting the light back from the brightness and love of my friends who visit here. I almost called this blog moonlight to honor the many wonderful people that grace this blog with their comments.

To think that someone is using my tree pic as their wallpaper gives me such a warm feeling. Thank you for that special gift. :-)

Anonymous said...

Did you actually take/make that picture??? Cuz now I'm just really gonna be even more impressed...and that's just not good. You know you can only admire a person so much. That's the rule.

Trée said...

Holly, I took this picture with an elph digital camera last Fall. The tree was actually in the parking lot of a business park.

When I got home I cropped the parking lot out to focus just on the colors of the leaves. Once I had the crop right, then I used an add-on filter program for photoshop to achieve the japanese woodblock look. I've got several other versions of this pic, some that look more like watercolor, not to mention the original.

If I showed you what I did you would see it's not that hard to achieve. But I'll be just as happy to have you impressed too. LOL

As always, I do appreciate your so very nice comments. Glad you liked the quote too. :-)

Trée said...

Oh, and Holly, that's a very good rule you have too. Keep that one in your purse at all times and read frequently. :-)

Anonymous said...

Did I mention what a bad rule breaker I am?

Trée said...

Holly, what fun would a woman be if she didn't break a few rules? :-)
