185. At Valla

Kyra at Valla

Sometimes you work and work and work and realize you are probably trying too hard. All four versions of the above sketch were done with the same reference photo. All four had the same goal--capture the magic in the reference as close as possible. Maybe they could be sisters but they sure don't look like the same person--LMAO.

I like the first one very much, but my favourite among all is the last one (the very first sketch), viewed simply as it is, she looks young and vibrant, and I can easily imagine this to be Kyra at Valla. I still think, though you don't agree, that your skill in this field is quite simply awesome. The fact that you are new to this emphasizes that fact. They may be quite different in some respects, but they are all excellent drawings.
Just love the eyes in that last (first done) sketch, full of light and life. :-)

Okay, we take the hair, mouth and right eye from the color version and put it on the first version. :-D

As always Sweetest, your kind words are very much appreciated. :-)

The first one (with the blue sky background) is my favourite. It is really tough doing good portraits (which is why I stick to stuff like fractals / abstracts).

Having said this, as with everything "less is more". Sometimes just suggesting the features (nose / mouth) is more effective that trying to draw everything that you see.

Stunning! Hard to choose...

Jenni, so true. Haven't learned how to do that with sketching, yet. :-)

Thanks Chicky. I used an Australian actress for the reference. Must be something in the water down there that makes so many beautiful, warm and enticing women. :-)

I love seeing the transformation to the finished drawing. I am enjoying seeing your artistic talent bring your stories to life.

*HUGS* to you and Jack!

Karen, Jack and I thank you both. One day, we will get Kyra exactly where we want her. :-)
