783. just walking

Papa: What would you like to do today?

Kyra: Take a walk on the beach.

Papa: I’d like that. Anything else?

Kyra: Nope. Just you and I.

________

Em: We’ve been walking for close to an hour now and you’ve not said a word. What’s up?

Trev: Nothing’s up.

Em: Really?

Trev: You know, sometimes, I don’t want words between us. I just want your hand, your smile and the quiet of the two of us, walking, slowly.

__________

Yul: Hey Rog, want to go for a walk?

Rog: What for?

Yul: What do you mean “what for?”

Rog: Well, where are we going?

Yul: For a walk.

Rog: I know that.

Yul: No, I don’t think you do.

I have a feeling that Papa and Kyra just walked, but if there was talk, Papa might have said something like this:

Beyond the chatter, beyond the white noise of small talk, behind the projected image fueled by fear and hope, want and need, is what and only what can be held. In your life Kyra, only a few will let you in. Hold that trust as a fledgling. To live in the heart and soul of another is as close to Janus as you will ever get.

Then again, he might have said this too:

Kyra, there are two kinds of people you will know in this life. Those that can do something for you and those that can’t. How you treat those that can’t, will define you, give you your opportunity to flow within the current and add to the greater energy that animates all life. Life is touched in the giving, not the taking. And when you give, give with no expectation, no scale or account, but give to give as one breathes to breathe. In breath is life. As to in giving.

Or this:

Nothing is owned. Everything borrowed. The balance of our life begins anew with each day. And we only add to the accounts of our life with deposits. There is no such thing as compound interest in relationship.

and this:

So, my dear, we start each day with a question, knowing nothing stands still. Are we yellow or red? Will we add or subtract for nothing is not influence upon contact? Can we step outside the artificial center of the universe known as “me” and see with eyes that see beyond the immediate view? Can we give and when we think we have nothing left, give some more? Will we help those who will never be able to help us?
