Two nights ago, I would have given anything to have been able to come online and talk :-) Lots going on here, nothing I can't handle though.
Re: my father has had a couple of bits of bad news, but nothing too serious. At present his op is scheduled for the 4th, if he gets the final go-ahead, there is a blockage in the veins in his neck that could cause them to cancel (deem it too risky), but my feeling on it is that he will go for the op. He's been rather quiet these last two days, but generally he is in good spirits and that's the most important thing :-)

Leigh, I got up early to ride before the heat today and I made the mistake of turning on the Tour. Holy fricken Cow, Floyd rode himself into the history books today. In-f*ing-credible performance! So, I rode in the 100 degree heat and I thought of Floyd and everything was just fine. :-)
I did this sketch on the computer using Painter IX.5 with my Wacom tablet. Thank Janus for layers and digital erasing--LOL. When I first saw the model I used for this image the eyes and the hair caught my eye. I like the pixieishness of the look. She is a woman of imagination and I'll leave it at that. :-)
You're brave riding your bikein those temperatures, although ours here have been the same, both countries are slap bang in the middle of a heat wave. Keep your fingers crossed for me on Sunday - I've got a long trek ahead 53 miles in total - but it should be WAY cool!

Leigh, growing up in Louisiana I'm used to the heat. Of course, as you know, on the bike you create your own breeze, which is a good thing in the summer and a not so good thing in the winter. :-)
The nice thing about riding in the summer is sweating. I know it sounds funny, but I love to sweat on the bike. Oh, and unzipping the jersey feels good too--on or off the bike. :-D

Thanks for the kind words. I have no training or experience in drawing. Photoshop and Painter make it easy to erase and erase and erase again. This was actually version 6 of Mairi. If I posted the first five, especially number one, you would have a good laugh. :-)

When I visited Florida a couple of weeks ago I went riding on a bike and it was SO AWESOME! Wow, what an experience. The road surface was so smooth, I had an expert guide with me, AND it worked up a sweat. Then it happened - RAIN. Amazing stuff that rain heheh.
I just have to go back and do it all over again.

My new bike should be ready anytime now. I've been waiting 28 months for it. It's a custom steel Sachs. I like my Polar, but with most things, I'm ready for something different and those Garmins look really sexy. :-D
Rode today about an hour and twenty minutes in 98 degree heat and direct sun. Felt great to sweat and pull some water from my bottle over my head ala Floyd--LMAO. However, right now I'm reminded just how much heat the body retains. Need someone to warm you up? :-)
*snort* It's so hot here I think I'll be doing that things with the water bottle over my head - it works so well. I usually do it over my arms too and when you feel the breeze as you cycle and you're all wet like that - the heat doesn't matter.
Warm me up? heheh. This country is as hot as yours :-)

I get to choose the colors I want. Right now I'm leaning toward a candy apple red and white combo. Joe Bell does the custom painting to go with Richie's custom frame. If you get a chance, check out Richard Sachs website to get a look at his work. Quite the builder he is.

The model for Mairi, believe it or not, came from a hair and beauty magazine. I was in the bookstore and the cover model caught my eye. Inside were pictures of hundreds of different hairstyles and as I flipped through, I found my Mairi. She was not a professional model, just an average woman they did a makeover on--kinda a before and after thing. So, I paid $7 to buy a magazine for one picture. Anything for the story. :-D
How neat! And now her image has been created again, in your sketch and in this very fascinating character of Mairi. I can't wait to see her character unfold.

Aggie, thanks for the kind words. Its not hard to improve when you start at the bottom. If I can devote more time to learning how to draw and then drawing I hope to continue to improve. I'm starting to get comfortable with the tablet and finding a few brushes that I like.

Next drawing lesson...shading. Put all the light on one side and all the dark on the other. It'll come to you real easy. :)
