338. Wrong Question

“Von,” asked John, “what the hellocks is she thinking?”

“Well,” said Von, scratching the few hairs on his aged chin, “I would say she is following a voice only she can hear.”

“Bullshiott. What she is doing is putting this entire crew at risk for a fracking pipe dream. Ten lives in the balance for the non-existent chance that one of those ten might see again.”

Von smiled.

John was beside himself. “Is that all you got? A smile? You’re senile old man.”

“You may be right. I may be senile. But let me ask you this. Have you asked her why she has made the choice to return to Kulmyk?”

“She told us. She thinks this infidel can do the impossible, assuming about fifty billion things, not the least of which is whether he is still alive.”

“Have you considered that you are asking the wrong question?”

Okay, Tree, you've got me asking - what should the question be ?
I'm serious here.
This is one of those significant things that change everything, that bring awareness, that keep you hooked on reading the same blog every time the owner writes a new post, you know ?
Confess, Cupcake -- what the heck is the question he should be asking ???

Annie, John is a hands-on practical "what and how" kinda guy and so he sees the world through those eyes. Kyra is more of a "why" kinda girl, and in this case, based on the interchange we see below between Kyra and Goldie, she is listening to the larger "why" rather than the smaller "what and how."

Going back is the only way to go forward, although that could just be me reading this through shades of pink, but as they are now, Trev, Em, Mairi, Yul, Rog (in the main), they need this, they need to know and feel upon their person what really matters, that each of them would (I do believe that to be the case) go the distance, regardless of what it might cost them. Without this action, they may never find each other properly again. Wonderful chapter.

I think, in time, if not sooner rather than later, they will come to understand that this was the only course of action.
