473. An Audience of Pebbles

Clover, he had said. Fields and fields of damp aromatic clover, an endless rolling carpet before china blue skies. Really, she had asked, her arms wrapped around her folded knees. Yes, he had replied, looking her way. She smiled. He didn't. Which only made her smile wider.

Tell me more she said.

I hear silence in a cloud he said, stroking her hair; and feel hope in the warmth of a sunbeam. I see your hair spread like a shell, your eyes big like planets and on my cheek, your breath, honest as the breeze. Down a ways, a stream gurgling; and on that clear bed, a thousand pebbles, all shapes and sizes, waiting in audience for our naked feet.

She leaned her head on his chest, listening to his heart beat. He pulled her tight and closed his eyes.

Utterly delightful, poetic, like a lullaby, gently lulling and such pleasure it provides as one reads. The warmth between them, the hopeful beams, so welcome drying the tears though traces remain from the chapter before. Separate people and times, one done, one just beginning and so incomparable and one does not lessen the other. Love the balance that you create here, of how love may be plentiful and all hopeful as time begins and of the uncertainty, the urging to not take anything for granted. Great beauty in your words, the imagery that you provide, rolling carpets of clover, knees that are embraced, smiles that widen when others do not, silence of a cloud, warmth of a sunbeam, hair spread, breath honest as a breeze, down a ways (love that expression!), gurgling streams and clear beds, a thousand pebbles, waiting in audience for our naked feet, leaning heads, heartbeats heard, an tugging and the closing of eyes to savour, in short as I look back over that list and to no surprise, it all, every last part of it, was so very lovely. Including the a*mazing image at the top there. You, here, wow, love it.

Sweetest, the challenge here was knowing when to stop. I didn't much really want to leave that clover field. :-)

As always, thank you for your kind words.

Awrrr!

These two are so sweet :-D

If you didn't know the history, didn't know Trev's past thoughts and Em's recent heartaches, this could read like two young people, continuing to discover each other, and falling in love a little bit more.
But the knowing causes the poignancy (sp?), makes this chapter almost bitter-sweet.

Welcome back!
Jen

Jen, good to be back, especially with 200+ flights canceled out of Dallas today. :-)

Miladysa, like southern sun-brewed tea. ;-)

Canceled flights = lost inspirational opportunities? Perish the thought!

I'm looking forward to what comes next.....

Rest well. Jen

Snow and Jenni, thanks for stopping by. :-)

Jen, I'm trying. This "cold" seems to be getting worse. Perhaps I will turn the corner sometime today.

This scene, by the way, happens at the same time that Von is writing in his journal, both happening moments before Bravo is viciously attacked. Von saw the attack coming, Em and Trev, with eyes closed, did not. So, we have two (Von and Zoe) looking back and two (Em and Trev) looking forward. The Yin and Yang of the story as held within two short chapters. ;-)

I think my Yang needs some more Yin. :-D

she seems to be a "Nature Nymph"

I like his description of her & the scene is very sensitive & romantically passionate!

The gyro-static image of the fractal is moving . I think it must be an optical illusion LOL!

Trée said...

Thanks Mona. Em is a nature girl, having grown up at sea with her father. Salt of the earth she is. :-)

Oh, the fractal on this one...

These two lovebirds give my sorry ass hope.

They're so cute.

I think the Yin your Yang needs is called BUTTER.

YAY, a subtle reference back to the shells.

Trée said...

Strumper, you're just showboating now. Do you think you could BUTTER my WALNUTS? :-D

Trée said...

W, the shells are never far from my heart. :-)

Cha Cha said...

But, showboating is so much FUN!

Especially with butter.
