426. Caducity
Zeke cast his tired eyes to the empyrean as the Dyad silently slipped away beyond the pull of Silus. He made a few signs with his hands as the vessel winked from sight, swallowed, it seemed, by the very piceous fate calling his name. Without word, he turned and reentered his tent. Sitting alone he glanced at the empty slot on his makeshift bookshelf. If he had ever felt more alone, he could not recall the occasion.

Wonderful title as it pertains to the smallness of the vessel against the vastness of black and the precariousness of their situation. Tired eyes, without a word, sitting alone, empty slot, makeshift bookshelf, alone, such an unyielding image of him watching, turning, sitting. It's almost unbearable to think of Zeke left behind. Tired eyes tell of exertion, of there having been much to do. Swallowed...by the very piceous fate calling his name, wonderfully dramatic sentence. This is yet another short and thoroughly expert chapter. Snapshots, these have been, all the more powerful and telling for their brevity.
Sunshine, I think I live for your comments. Thank you. :-)
You little tease you!
Another gorgeous image :)
(May I make a suggestion/request please? I would love to sit and read the whole story but it's not possible for me to do so at the moment. It would help though if perhaps sometimes you could put a link in a fresh post that would take a reader back to a relevant past episode? )
It would only be fair, ;-), since I live for your story.
Miladysa, I usually do, but for you, I will make a special effort to supply those links. :-)
Sorry Tree - I must have been lost in the story and missed them.
Forgive me? and thank you :)
Miladysa, never be afraid to ask a question about what is happening. Sometimes the story makes reference to a previous chapter (I link these), sometimes the chapter makes reference to something that can be inferred from the story (which requires knowing the story--you'll need to ask here since there is no one chapter to link, and sometimes the story is breaking new ground and providing new information. For example, in this chapter we learn two "new" things. (1) Zoe; (2) that Ceru was actually on the Dyad and that the Dyad came from Silus.
Thanks again for reading. I know coming into the story late that can be quiet a challenge and I do deeply appreciate it. :-)
It has been challenging.
But, well worth it.
I still don't know exactly what is going on all the time, but Madame Storm's wonderful comments usually help me out quite a bit.
Sometimes understanding gets in the way. Thinking is overrated. Go find a good pillow and a firm headboard. And be prepared to rotate. :-D
A man who appreciates a good headboard is a good man indeed, Mr. Tree.
