Created in Corel Painter using only airbrush brushes.
I did the basic rough sketch and then started to refine the sketch. I was quite well into a second version and it was looking rather good when the program shut down and I lost the work done on the second sketch. Rather than walking away in frustration I thought I'd just try the airbrushes without doing a second sketch. And I saved the dang file every five minutes. :-D
Agree with Deb, the definition has improved greatly, you've worked those brushes like a pro. Beautifully done. And I just cannot help myself but say, the downcast eyes give it a look of sadness which though the rest of the portrait is recognizable as you, the eyes looking away seem to belong to someone else. To sum up, fantastic work!
Sweetest, if you stare at this sketch, you just might see something very interesting, and, I might add, unintended, although it would have been brilliant to say that I did this by design. :-D
Looking at the pic, imagine that the right one-third pie shape (part down the part in my hair and cut over the cheek more or less) is the sketch of my face AND that the other two-thirds is a mask I am wearing. Look in particular at the eyes. The right eye looks real and that one-third of the face looks happy and smiling. The other eye looks 'dead' like a mask and so does the rest of the face on the left side--the left side looks larger too, like it is a mask designed to fit over my real face. Let me know if you can see what I'm seeing.
By the way, right and left side is from the viewer's point of view. ;-)
I definitely see the melancholia and I definitely see the mask.
In fact, my first thought, was almost a 'Jekyll and Hyde' sort of look, the two sides of a person, not that it looks spooky, just two sides, and that is what came to my mind. But, I think it has to do with the blue taking up a specific area and the grey taking up a specific area, almost dividing the face into two segments.
I find it completely compelling.
Especially because I often view myself as being two different people, although, I am probably a whole lot more than just two.

Wow, these are getting better and better. Fantastic work Trée.
Thanks Deb. You know what they say about practice. :-D

To quote our boy, You're Beautiful, in every which way. Sweet dreams, Poppet, and a happy day ahead. :-)

If anyone is struggling to see 'the mask,' I've placed a couple versions at Trebuchet (link on my sidebar toward the bottom).
Unintended, which only makes it better.
I like this one, and how the blue changes. Symbolic, perhaps?
Cléa, if so, then it was subconscious since 'the mask' was a happy accident. :-)
I saw the mask immediately, for some reason this portrait feels cold to me, distracting even though it is more defined. hmmmm...
Kimmie
Kimmie, it is a 'cold' portrait in both the choice of color and in mood. Has a certain melancholy feel to it. I'm not always happy. ;-)

The more the merrier. Right? :-D
