209. We're Leaving

A
fter the events of the night before, and much soul searching, Kyra gathered the crew in the conference room. Her speech was brief. She thanked everyone for coming and said:

“As soon as Mairi is back, we’re leaving. Rog, start working on our exit strategy. Von, please lend your assistance. And Trev, ask John to supply provisions to the extent they can.”

Before anyone could ask what that meant, she was gone.

Very tight prose. Tantalising as always. I like the graphic too, that dark sphere in the center is nice and moody. As always, am looking forward to the next installment.

Tre mate may I ask ya where u got the character names from? I mean Kyra, Mairi etc. Cos they sound very Indian.

Lovely!
Keshi.

Your graphics are just getting better and better, Trée. Great work on the story too.

Thanks Jenni. Thought it was time for a short chapter after listening to the merits of the Gettysburg address on the radio this afternoon.

Trée said...

Keshi, I'm Indian. Didn't you know?

Trée said...

DJB, so good to see you stopping by. Your kind words are deeply appreciated. All I will say is sometimes it is better to be lucky than good.

Such a beautiful fractal, the outside of it reminds me of fireworks lighting up the night sky, sparks of colour against pitch black. Very, very nice.

And as I've said, a time or two if memory serves, I do so love these mini chapters, tantalizing is what they are, like a small fix just enough to satisfy withdrawal symptoms, and as always left waiting on the next. :-)

I have to wonder what if anything happened on that walk to Kyra's room. Or whether just thoughts so to speak were enough to evoke such a desire to leave, that would be my guess.

Sweet dreams, sweet heart, x

Love the graphic - no wait - LOVE the graphic on this one. Makes one think something is staring straight into their soul.
Well, it did for me anyway.

Awesome as always.

Thanks Meg. As always, the image looks so much better when you click on it and enlarge it. Do you think you can handle the enlarged version?

Anonymous said...

Where you going with that one T?
Now whose being the sassy one! Of course my dear, I can handle - I can handle.

Hope things are well with ya!

Hey You. Time for a little contest. This chapter, again, is out of sequence in that there will be a chapter between this one and "Grace and Beauty." It might be a short chapter or it could be a long chapter, but something definitely happens after dinner.

Here is the contest (lunch on me): First person to guess Kyra's motivation for this speech wins. I will be very impressed if anyone gets it or all of it, since the motivation is not singular nor simple and shows a side of Kyra we rarely see (and that is all the hints you are going to get until someone tickles mah bellie). To win the contest, one must get it "all" right, not just bits of it. Okay, so I'm easy, here is one more hint--put yourself in Kyra's shoes over the last several chapters starting with G&B. See the world as she sees it and ask yourself what she might be thinking and or feeling in the conference room as she gives her short speech.

Good Luck. :-D

Oh, almost forget. Thanks so much for your endearing words. Always, always appreciated.

Meg, my momma always said, "Sassy is as Sassy does." As to where, well, let me ask you this. Which is more important--the "where" or the "how?"

:-D

Anonymous said...

How!!! The "how" is a gift, and if its really good then the where becomes pretty much irrelevant...

and in case your wondering - why doesn't even have to come into play either. Although, after the fact some times its nice to know the why.....

:)

Trée said...

Very nice answer Meg. So, is your "how" up to speed or do you need some practice?

Anonymous said...

Although my "how" may have become a bit dusty its one of those things you never really lose. With that being said, its like any craft, keeping things fine-tuned always requires practice.

Is that an offer?

LOL

Meg, I'm a teacher at heart, so how could I resist the opportunity, my one shot, to help a fellow citizen of the universe. :-D

Blogger seems to be acting up with regard to comments and I understand some can comment only under Anon and some not at all.

If you would like to comment on this post, but cannot because Blogger won't let you, please visit my mirror site for The Story on WordPress. The link is in my sidebar under "Links."

From Terry:

I am unable to post at your site :-( Can't even do it via annonymous.

Here is my comment:

I'm content to wait and see... your story telling skills are more fun than my guessing games. Nice work on the previous chapter. I remain completely enthralled, in both pictures and prose. No need to tell you to keep it UP.

shhhh, maybe no one else will notice and I'll have the place to myself :)

Trée said...

Okay Meg, I'll be real quiet. If blogger keeps acting up you may be right. Just me and you. Unplug the phone and lock the door. :-D

Soooo, who do you think made blogger act up anyway??? on only your sight........

Meg

Trée said...

If only that were true. :-D

Many reports in blogland on problems commenting on blogger blogs. Seems those who have made the switch to beta are not having problems, but those who have not, who are trying to comment on beta blogs are, to one degree or another. Beta, by the way, is about to lose its beta status as the google team feels they are about done with the update. I just wish they would give us some decent templates, which is one of the reasons I created the WordPress blog. Perhaps in time.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the update!

I guess playtime is done :(

Meg

Trée said...

How does the song go, "It's playtime somewhere." Or is that 5 o'clock. Oh well, about the same in my mind. Now get that frown off your face and report to the back office. Or, as John might say, "Understand?" :-D

Anonymous said...

YES SIR JOHN, ANYTHING FOR YOU....

good - cause I only have about an hour before I blow this joint for the weekend and I like to ease into my weekends...

so umm, what was that about a back office??

Anon, I was just teasing Keshi. I see myself as a citizen of the universe and prefer not to label myself as this or that. Having said that, with regard to lables, I'm not of the Indian lable. I hope you are not too disappointed. I'll try not to tease about these things in the future. :-)

Wow what a cool frac! ;-)

Are you moving to wordpress?

Trée said...

Leigh, I have set up a WordPress blog that is a mirror of the Story that I post here. I like having options and WordPress, which I'm getting more familar with, I like. Maybe in time I will transition to the WP site as my main blog. For now, however, this is it and will continue to be my main presence. Come see me on the WP site if you like. It does look a lot different than here. :-)

Nice fractal! Will Kyra and gang come back to our beautiful blue and green planet?

Trée said...

Absolutely Saffy. I would not have my dear Kyra end up anywhere else. When I get old and start to lose my mind, you will find me in the Caribbean, searching from island to island for my dear sweet heroine. Somehow, I don't think I'd mind the search. :-)

Anonymous said...

huh!!!!!

o u mean ur part of the big wide world? :) Indeed!

Not two. ;-)

Or, as Papa might say, if I scoop a bucket of water from the ocean, is the ocean in my bucket.

Love you, mean it. Let's do lunch. :-D

But soon, yes, I think soon. Chocolate for my pillow?

Chicky, what a wonderful and amazing interpretation of this image as it fits with the story. This is why sharing is so good. Have a great weekend. I'm still in shock I answered the wrong question. What was I thinking? :-D

Will do. But for now, Sweet Dreams. :-)

Autumn Storm said...

Sweet dreams to all the monkeys, and to you too. :-)

Trée said...

You should see me trying to corral all these monkeys in one bed. Get three in and two jump out. :-D

Autumn Storm said...

:-D

Worse than a bunch of 5 year olds, I can well imagine. Try bribery, bananas, raisens, no internet for a week, that might do the trick. :-D

ChickyBabe said...

No such thing as the wrong one, I'm honoured that you took part in the milestone event :).

Trée said...

Sunshine, I tried, but they just busted out loose right after the last of the Saturday cartoons this morning. Last I saw, they were heading straight for your place. Be on the lookout and put M to bed. :-D

Trée said...

It was fun Chicky. I'll be back as soon as the teacher lets me out of the corner with my dunce hat. :-D

Autumn Storm said...

My sides hurt from reading your comments this evening. :-D!

I'm off to re-read some chapters (after a quick jog around the 'sphere) and then hopefully I'll be able to come up with something worthy of posting here as an entry. :-) Hope you're having a fantastic Saturday over there across the ocean, catch those monkeys later, x

Glanced over some of those Kieran chapters to refresh my impression of him - the painting does so as much as any words. :-)
Before I go back over those chapters, the contrast between the two men deserves some sort of mention, though I may go off on a completely different track after. With Kyra, as you have said somewhere in a chapter or in comments, in short, she is looking for another Papa, and with Kieran being special, a child of the shells, being wherever he is now (on that next level, to use simple language), their communications through those channels, and their never having expressed verbal or physical desire for one another in life, well, Kieran is unreachable, dream-like, at this moment in time (believe you have some sort of surprise up your sleeve still with regards to K&K, though I would never dare guess as to what), Kieran will never be 'here', it will never go beyond thoughts of what could have been. Reality will never set in, the physical (in every sense) will never be theirs together, and as such, he is closer than any other man could be in her comparisons to papa. With the two of them, it's a spiritual love (not the exact word I wanted, but it's lost to me just now). John, on the other hand, is here with her, and is 'real'. Kieran in a sense is safe.
The effects of the vial must have given her food for thought the next morning, to say the very least. I'm not sure if she even said anything, somehow I don't think that she did, somehow I think she still maintained and held herself in check.
Whatever, and from that scene with Yul and the brief part about eye contact etc at dinner I'm guessing they were pretty colourful, her thoughts were that evening, it would all be jumping around inside her the next day. She wouldn't suspect any outside influence, I don't think, since she did not think or feel anything that wasn't already there - the vial, I imagine, just heightened her senses, opened her mind, and made more of what was already there.
There's a choice first and foremost that must have come to the forefront of her mind, and really it has nothing to do with John as such, not as an individual. John and what he represents and Kieran and what he represents, and what that all says about her. I think perhaps she doesn't want to be in that position yet, though she would not question the sense and normality of what she is feeling, with Kieran gone (and their never having had a 'real' relationship) versus her natural desires and wants, short-term and long-term.

That became circles as opposed to a straight line, more in a bit, might continue this though once I've read though it, to make it a little less enthusiastic and a little clearer instead. :-D

Afternoon my ambulatory one with refulgent eyes and a heart the beats in tune with the universal rhythm of life. Coffee's ready. If you'd like a coffee, no trouble since I already have five of them lined up and a bunch of big eyes staring back at me. Thank Janus they all like their coffee the same way. :-D

That was a mighty noble attempt at getting into the head and heart of Kyra. I look forward to your second attempt. No rush, I know you're busy.

By the way, the lumberjack has been in the garden again, by request or so he thought. :-D

Autumn Storm said...

Noble means I was way off target, I gather. LOL

Never too busy for Kyra and her crew, or you and yours. :-) That whole 'it's so simple' thing has me second-guessing myself. We'll see anyhow, after a couple of those coffees (yes please) if it bursts forth or not. :-)

The word Lumberjack always did make me smile, reminded me of the Monty Python sketch/song, but now it's a real giggler. Off to my next 'stop', but before I go, I'm leaving a couple of these: xoxo

PS Let me know how the game goes. :-)

We're leading by 14 with 8 minutes to go. I think you have unexplored talents in the cheerleader category but the real question is, "Do you have the pleated outfit?" :-D

Autumn Storm said...

It's in storage, along with my catsuit, my maid outfit, my bunny tail and my sparkly boob tassles to mention but a few. :-D

Trée said...

Okay, put that on the top of our list of places to visit. :-D

Trée said...

We won. The Titans are 7-2 since you started cheering. Prior, they were 0-5. Amazing turn-around. :-)

Autumn Storm said...

Woohoooo! :-D

Autumn Storm said...

Hey you,
Thanks for coffee and all. I owe you one - well, a couple actually. :-D

Sweet dreams, x

Trée said...

Afternoon Sunshine. :-)

Trée said...

Meg, it does appear to be working. :-)

When the Titans were 0-5 I thought for sure they were on their way to a 2-14 or at best 3-13 season. For them to be at 7-7 and still mathematically eligible for the playoffs is unbelieveable. I not sure, but I doubt any team has ever started 0-5 and made the playoffs. Two very tough games to go (Buffalo and New England) so I don't think its going to happen, but it has been an incredible ride watching Vince Young and this team come together.

How was your weekend?

Trée said...

Meg, I wouldn't mind spending a little extra time in bed too. Not that I need the rest you see. :-D

Trée said...

Meg, those were the good ole days when everyone took the playfulness in the spirit it was meant. A few non-players, however, felt "uncomfortable" with the give and take and out of respect for those parties, I cut back my playfulness and in certain cases, took it elsewhere, which is to say to a private space where names are checked at the door. I still engage as good as I get, so as the song goes, "Show me what ya got," and I'll show you what I got. :-D

Trée said...

All you have to do is ask, real nice like. On your knees in plaid would be even better. I'll leave the saddleback shoes and ponytail to your discretion. :-D
