392. The Brotherhood

"Sir, the transport will be docking soon. Considering all that has happened, do you think he will join us?"

"Don't know. A man loses his wife, that way, hard to say. Are the repairs finished?"

"Yes sir."

"I don't think they are."

"Sir--"

"I said I don't think they are."

"Afraid--"

"I may need time. Not like I'm asking him to go for a walk. And . . ."

"And what sir?"

"And there is the other one. We need the other one too."

"Is it true what they say? About the other one."

"Depends. What do they say?"

"That she can move like the wind and shine like the sun, that she single-handedly destroy an entire company with no more than her hands, that she can slip between realms and speak to the dead and summon the gods."

"Well, if it's not true, we're wasting our time, brotherhood or not."

Hey you, welcome home. :-) So good to have you and The Story back. Have missed you both immensely!
Very much looking forward to seeing where this beginning will lead, though I have a fair idea given your recent comment about the crew returning to Kulmyk. Home for John and Ariel, also the place of so many memories, the good which so soon after Cait's death could be the most painful, the not so good, and not forgetting the men who raped and murdered Cait were from and most likely back on Kulmyk. Ooooh, I'm all excited! Write on. :-)
PS Nice description of Kyra given, the sense of awe, disbelief and hope. :-)

Miladysa, I got home after five days in five airports and just needed to leave work aside and touch the thing that brings me great joy, not that thing--LOL--that was later. The Story has always taken me to the music so to speak and when I'm writing, even just a short piece like this chapter, I feel like I'm where I belong, if that makes any sense. I've lived with these characters for two years now and they seem to be as real as other people in my life and when I am away from them for a week or so, I can almost hear them calling to me, not to forget about them, that they got bidness to do but can't do it without me. :-D

As always, thanks for the kind words. Always appreciated. :-)

Annie, I can't tell you how good it is to be home and be in my own bed again. Just the idea of eating a home cooked meal seems like heaven and the pleasure of going to a bookstore and just browsing as if I were invisible (with my cell phone turned off) seems like a great decadent luxury. You know, I've thought of having you on the edge of your seat, but it wasn't because of my writing. :-D

Thank you Grace. Work has been so intense and crazy this month (and last) that when I hear Christmas music in a hotel, like I did yesterday, I almost pause and wonder, is it December already and then I look at my watch and realize the month is half gone and the holiday is 10 days away. It just didn't seem right yesterday morning, sitting in my hotel room in Kansas City and ordering Christmas presents online since if I didn't do it online it just didn't look like it was gonna get done.

So glad you like this fractal. I've got more from where that one came. Take care my passionate and intelligent one. :-)

I love the fractal though. Its like two moons holding hands or lip locking...

Mona, this image, for the purpose of the story, is the interlocking rings of The Brotherhood, the symbol of semper fi, of the chain unbroken, of a brother of sacrifice in the trade of force and might, of violence justified on blood soaked fields of death and destruction--rationalized, of course, to the greater good. ;-)
