A Snowball and A Sennet

Picked up a new mic today: Blue's Snowball as seen above. To christen my new toy, a reading of Sennet and Theandric--click the links below. Enjoy.

I've also added an enhanced reading of Capiche?, which is to say, as I became Trev in the reading, I allowed him the freedom to embellish the prose--perhaps my favorite kind of reading and an insight into Trev like we've never really had before. Highly emotional.

A reading of Her Patroon added too. I feel like a kid at xmas. :-D

An enhanced reading of As If Janus posted. Worth the effort this one is. Powerful. Enjoy.

My first rough attempt at working in multiple sound tracks. Listen to Coin for a fun render of Taboodja in voice character.

Exceptional reading of this dearly loved, beautiful chapter, better sound quality would be difficult to imagine. A real treat, very, very nicely done. Clear, intimate, lovely as can be.

Thanks Ms Storm. I would never have believed a decent mic and my own recording would make such a difference. Even when I was in the store I was having second thoughts since recording by phone wasn't broken, so to speak. But when I heard the difference in sound quality, not to mention being able to do a reading without a phone stuck in my ear, I was pleasantly surprised and buyers remorse evaporated. I think we might do some more. :-)

I couldn't hear anything/Sennet on your new blue mic, Tree...

Annie, did you click the link (Sennet centered at the botton). Takes about ten seconds to load once you reach the podcast.

Theandric gave me shivers across every inch of my body.
Capiche? is mindfrailingly, take-hold-of-my-heart-and-never-let-it-go brilliant. You've outdone yourself!

Sweetest, I didn't intend to do what I did, the enhanced reading. It just happened and I tried not to get in the way. It does stand, as of now, in a class by itself as far as readings go.

As always, thanks for the kind words. I'm having a blast doing these. :-)

Smiling to know that above all else, smiling too because it means we will see more. :-)

Wonderful job on a favourite chapter with this latest reading.

Sweetest, these readings have been my pleasure. I feel as if I'm seeing the story for the first time listening to my own readings and enhanced readings of chapters I wrote. What is interesting is, when I listen to myself read these chapters, it is as if I'm hearing them for the first time.

Thrills me so to hear you say that, since you have often expressed a wish to be able to do that very thing, read/hear story chapters as we do. Been smiling all day thinking of this, and of these five readings that I heard last night and this morning. I worked like Speedy Gonzales today just so that I could get home as quickly as possible. :-D
Off now to listen to them all again, more than worth a second listen is how mind-blowingly fanfrailingtastic they are.

Good Sunday afternoon to you, Tree ! stunning fractal today !!!!! GORGEOUS - I THINK MY MOST FAVORITE - EVER !!!

Still couldn't hear the podcast - clicked on the link, saw the song of the day, the pretty picture - and nothing. Must be something with my computer that is wrong... Grrr !

And I am so sorry that we didn't get to see each-other and hang out when you were in Orange County ! I remember being in sort of a funk for a few weeks and not visiting blogs much, and that must have been when you left your notice. Sigh. I think I just assumed you had my e-mail and if you were around (didn't we discuss this once about a year ago ?), we'd make plans. Darn. Snagglerabbit.
I hope there will be another time :)

Hope you had a great trip while you were out here -- where di you go ? what did you see ? who did you visit ?

Genuinely,
lovingannieatgmaildotcom

p.s. I also responded to your comment on my blog.

Gawd in heaven's rainbow, I love that fractal !!!

Annie, sorry you're having trouble with the audio. So far, everyone is able to listen.

As for Newport Beach, I was on business, so didn't have a lot of free time. We ate at a few restaurants down by the water, afraid i don't remember the names but nothing to write home about. I know a lot of bloggers don't want to meet other bloggers so I never push the issue when I travel. Next time, I'll drop you an email and we can have coffee or wine or both. :-)

Thanks for the kind words on the image. It is kinda cool. :-)

I'm going to save your reading for tomorrow during a break, but I simply have to comment on the piece of art you've posted at the top today... "Tube Guy Apophysis" Fantastic. sometimes a piece just grabs you.. and this one does me.

Trée said...

JRM, thanks for the kind words on the image. The Story is replete with them over the last three years. I'll try to rotate various ones in and out over time.

I listened to Capiche?... very poignant reading. The comment you made got me think of my own story (in progress), becoming a character. And as much as I have done it in the past, I am yet to read it out loud. I think it will add another dimension.

Trée said...

Cléa, reading a chapter and then listening to the reading changes the story in a way I can't explain, but it becomes something more when you listen to your words read, even when read by you. I would recommend giving it a try. I think you will find your writing or your perception of it goes to a new dimension. Cheers and thanks for listening. :-)

& I was talking about your special effects at my blog, where I conferred an award upon you! :)

Mona, thank you for the award but more importantly, thank you for the friendship over the years. I am blessed to have known you.

Seems like I always come late to the comment trail.

But I enjoyed this. Thank you for the magic.

Very cool! Nice reads.

I can't help but get techy (I have some Blue mics myself) so feel free to ignore my unsolicited suggestions . . . I'd use a bit more compression and I'd also add a de-esser. Maybe add a little bass too. Probably a taste thing, but that's what I'd do. (Sorry, I can't help myself with this stuff!)

Sounds great though.

Trée said...

Riff, thanks for the suggestions. I think I've solved the problem but I will definitely try your suggestions to perhaps improve the sound even more. For sake of notation, here is what I think the problem was, with an emphasize, knock on wood, of was. :-D

I have a MacBook Pro and I was using the left USB port next to the powercord connection. I also had my iPod charging on the right USB port. I'm guessing that with the iPod charging, it was sucking some of the juice needed to power the Snowball and that somehow this was causing the feedback/distortion at times on the recording. I've done three recordings now making those changes (no iPod and Snowball plugged into the right USB port and I've had no issues. Still, I look forward to trying your suggestions. I love to tweak. :-D

By the way, I'm time stamping the new audio by the date the chapter was originally written. The last three recorded reading are Afflatus and two versions of Reflections--one using the omni setting and one the uni setting.

Ryan, you're welcome. I usually do commentary on chapters rather than readings and as soon as I feel I have the mic working with Garageband correctly, I'll go back to work on commentary. Doing readings does humble one with regard to the skill necessary to be a voice actor, a skill I'm lacking, so for those who take the time to actually listen to me do a reading, well, more power to you. :-D

Woo! The fractal at the banner.....
Is that a mic? How do you use it? Not too aquainted with such stuffs, thought mics are like longitudinal?

Trée said...

Saffy, you plug it into your computer, open a program such as Garageband or iMovie or QuickTime, hit the record button and start talking. About that simple.

Thanks for the kind words on the image. It and the chapter are one of my faves. Glad you liked it. :-)

ryan field said...

I listened more than once, and thoroughly enjoyed it each time.

SaffronSaris said...

Cool! I'm liking your mic more and more.

Trée said...

Ryan, glad to hear, no pun intended.

Saffy, :-)

I am with Annie - no luck with the listen. I will try again after the kiddos are all a'bed.

So... Hello. And until later, good bye. :)

Jen, sorry to hear that. I wish I knew why you guys were having problems. Do you get an error message? When the page loads, does it seem to load correctly with a QuickTime box to play the audio? If so, what happens when you click the play button? The audio adds a wonderful flavor to the chapters, I'd hate to think you can't hear them.

By the way, within the next day or two, you'll be able to listen to the audio via iTunes under "Story Podcasts" :-)
