Default
A couple months ago I came upon a blog post that asked the question, "What is your default position?" Simple question and not anything new or earth shattering, yet somehow, phrased in this way it struck a chord with me and I've been unable to let it go.
The fractal above reminds me of the internal workings of a lock, an x-ray view so to speak. It's not quite lined up and the lock, not in alignment, will not open. A correctly aligned default position opens the world to us. An incorrectly aligned default position invites frustration, anger and eventual bitterness. Do you know your default position? Is it aligned?

Was trying to think of something more positive to say, but I just keep thinking that in most cases, bitter, frustrated people blame everyone and everything else for the way they feel about their lives and it makes me wonder which is better. To be aware or not. One leaves possibility wide open, but might also result in an even greater sense of frustration, if nothing changes, whereas the other, being left in unknowingness, often evokes a strange sort of acceptance.
Excellent post!
and what a beautiful blue in the frac!
That is a very nice image. What do you use to make them?
Esspea, this image was created with Apophysis 2.04, a freeware program anyone can download from the net. Thanks for the kind words. :-)
Sunshine, one of my fave books of all time is Jon Kabat-Zinn's "Wherever You Go There You Are." The title chapter is only 4 or 5 pages long but it speaks to exactly the point you are making. I've thought so highly of it I used to have it photocopied and posted on my office door. At one time, I retyped the whole chapter to be able to send it to a friend and at other times I've used the chapter as workshop material.
Next time you are in a bookstore, find his book and read that chapter. Heck, just buy the book, the whole work is just that good. :-)
I'll buy it. And read it :)
Stunning piece as usual and yes, the question? Very deep. I would rather be positive even if I continually fall flat on my face or ass. ;-)
Alex, always a pleasure to have you stop by. Thanks for the very kind words on the image--keep looking, it grows on you. :-)
I'd like to think the default position is neither postitive nor negative but if I had to choose a filter to intrepret I think positive is far superior. :-D
This is a very nice image. It reminds me of space. A spiralling black hole.
Thanks Anna. I love these images because everyone sees something a little different and everyone is right! Thanks for stopping by. :-)
Pretty image, deep thoughts. Its Friday over here and I need a nap - badly! Today was so busy, I did not get time for lunch. Guess my "lock" thingy is somewhat out of alignment.
what a brilliant post...

Guess Im that then :(
Keshi.
Treé, It looks like you've gone back to the raw Apop machine. I love it.
This is a perfect fractal for this particular question. I like the concept of the lock and alignment.
I believe I've posted my default position on my blog today. (prior to stopping by even)
Happy Friday.
Much love.
Do you know your default position? Is it aligned?
I think I know my default position and I also think I know my desired position - not always the same. And about the alignment, I am pretty sure that will not ever truly happen - I think that will be a life long work in progress.
Great Post! Thanks for instilling deep, thought provoking analysis on ourselves.
....even if its a Friday, which equates to play day for me :)
have a great weekend!
Morning Meg. I'm not sure I know anyone who's default position is exactly what they would want it to be. If someone tells you they are in perfect alignment, don't walk, but run the other way because they are either lying or so full of BS it's not funny. :-D
The first step is just knowing that we all have a default position, a way that we see the world and knowing that the seeing and the world are two different things to one degree or another. If you have taken that step, then you have taken a very significant step on the path of alignment.
Happy Friday to you my dear Kentucky neighbor friend. Can you see me waving just south of you? :-D
Hey my dear sweet sexy blogger babe. Happy Friday to you Aggie. Was I in Texas in 1992? :-D Sorry, couldn't resist. ;-)
Thanks for the kind words on the image. On my way over to see your defaults. :-)
Keshi, head over this way and I'll see what I can do about your alignment. My fingers have been known to work miracles. :-)
Have a great weekend my dear angel. :-)
Jenni, naps are wonderful things. Go get some rest and have yourself a wonderful weekend. :-)
**My fingers have been known to work miracles
ooo lala sounds very exciting :) Thanks Tre!
Keshi.
Well, they say practice makes perfect and I've had a little practice. :-)
Come to Tennessee, the land of pulled pork and magical fingers. :-D
My immediate response was to say "sitting down". Maybe my position is to take things literally at times instead of the usual analysis and introspection.
Chicky, there is much to be said for that response. As the post above points to, thought has it limits and I love how your initial response was not thought but an action or perhaps a "being." Beautiful and wonderful answer. :-)
