ode de Ross (my future son-in-law)

When Caesar stood on his balcony
and the birds sang
did they sing any different
than the birds off my porch?

When Napoleon accepted
the note of sun slipped under his tent
was the golden warmth any more ernest
than the sun on my cheek?

When Columbus sailed the unknown sea
and set his Italian feet upon native sand
could he had sighed more deeply
at the beauty before him
as the beauty before me?

and when Juliet looked upon Romeo
as stars upon the moon
did his heart rise and his soul breathe
as mine
when you look at me
as I look upon you

so upon this day
with the birds and the sun as witness
I stand as royalty
as king asking of queen
take my hand
share my life

Oh my God! That's so beautiful! Such a passionate wedding proposal. I take it you approve of the guy that you're daughter has chosen to spend her life with?! xx

Ross is a great guy. Good looking, good sense of humor, great job, motivated, ambitious, good head on his shoulders. Yep. I approve. :-)

SarahA, your comment makes me smile from ear to ear. Thank you for the kind words. Ross and Candace have not seen it yet. I hope they share your enthusiasm. :-)

WOW!

...WOW!
More cherish-able gift could not be found in dream or history.

Not only infinitely loving and thoughtful in act, but brilliant and beautiful in composition.

So brilliant. So beautiful.

WOW!

A phenomenally creative piece of writing, dozens of reasons to appreciate this poem rush to the surface and all the while one remembers that this impact will be doubled many times over when read by those for whom relevance is personal. This part in itself is stunning. The great blessings bestowed as defined within these beautiful expressions not only of the love between husband-and-wife-to-be, but of parent and in-law, of family and togetherness. That a father would have it in his heart to write something so lovely, so loving, is more heart-warming, more exhibitive of the measure of essence, of heart than I know how to say. Beauty reaches a point where only tears can correspond, so is it to imagine how touched Ross and Candace will be.

Each verse is like a proportional note of appreciation for the one that preceded. Symmetrical ingeniousness, alluring form, absolute balance. Eloquence matching sentiment, both inexpressibly sublime. Just as you have, I impulsively attempt to recall a known example in literature, in life, in history, in art that can compare, an hour plus spent endeavouring has been unsuccessful.

Reading, in regards to tone, I can compare, it feels like a hill top, lusciously green, to sitting with absolute peace of mind and soul, to the warmth of a summer's day embracing and there, in gentle breezes awareness and appreciation of a perfect moment. That wasn't what I started out writing, so to rephrase, each verse is like a warm, gentle breeze in sound and in affect, granting as they wash upon the heart, mind and soul the most generous reminder of the beauty of existence.
Sigh. Too wowed yet to comment properly. The eternal B to come. I hope. :-)

I dreamed about your family because of this post! In the dream, we were talking about the perceptions that I had gained about all of you from reading your blog. Funny... since you don't normally speak directly of your family and there really aren't any perceptions for me to gain about your family as a "Y'all" :)

I guess hearing about people in love influences even my subconscious! Enjoy your status as a 'Father of The Bride'. Have a nice weekend Tree.

Jen, right now, the father of the bride is feeling one thing--a drain on my checking account! Do you know how much weddings cost? :-D

Since you guys have two daughters, I'd suggest you start saving now! :-D

Jen, thanks for the wonderful comments. So nice to see you stopping by. :-)

Ms Storm, your comments again leave me wanting to pull a Tube and just say: WOW! :-D

Sigh, that's what I want to do when I read your feedback, comments and insight. When I read what you say, I want to ask, who is that, what poem is that, because I want to read it too. Bless your heart and bless your hide. I'd be willing to do both. :-D

Tree??? You are going to be the father of the Bride?

Do you have jitters?

Congratulations to Ross and your daughter.

I love the ode! :)

Mona, I am. Right now, the only thing that has the jiggles is my wallet. :-D

As always, thanks for the kind words. :-)

Less than 24 hours now. Pray for my soul.

I'll pray you have kleenex at hand at all the right moments and that nobody steps on your feet, or you on theirs, during the dancing.

Thinking of you all and the day ahead, I couldn't get this ear to ear smile off my face were I trying. Enjoy, love, and if you want to share a picture or two from the day, one of you in your finery for example.. :-)

I wouldn't want to be in your shoes today, Tree. Joy all around, but surrendering one's daughter child . . . I would think you would feel very conflicted. best of everything to you and those you love!

Lovely wedding. I survived. I hate pictures of myself so don't hold your breath waiting to see any with me in them. I'm just saying. However, if I find one I can tolerate, I might consider posting it.

Leslie Morgan said...

Yes, well, I won't hold my breath. Funny about you and pictures of yourself. I don't like to see myself in photographs, either. I don't think I "look like me". Yet Friday night the Badger snapped a few. Saturday, he applied an adjective or two to those photos. Saturday afternoon, I got brave enough to post my own face instead of a purchased graphic. Humans are flexible! We can manage change.

Trée said...

Oh, I love looking at other people's pics! :-D

Limes, if you are on Facebook, I've posted 25 pics from the wedding.

Loved the photos, everything looked as beautiful and joyful and perfect as you said. Yourself and C looking very dashing indeed and I loved the one of bride and mother-of-the-bride, and the very last photo of bride and groom, if ever there was a picture of happiness, this is it. :-) So very, very nice to view, thanks for sharing with us.
