321. Round the Horn
Trev: Driven by unspeakable shame, he inexplicably heads back to see Sal. Rain slashes his face as a vicious wind whips a steel gray sky. He doesn't notice.
Mairi: Unconscious on the cold floor, her head in a small pool of dark blood. She tried to stop Trev from going. He punched her in the face.
Emy: Her new found sensitivity to sound is driving her insane. She is currently floating her agitated arse in an isolation chamber. She holds her brooch in her hand, realizes she can no longer see her mother and starts to punch the side of the chamber. No one can hear. Blood drips from her knuckles. She starts to smile as salt stings her open wounds.
Cait: Sitting in the study with the Commander and Tom. She has been informed of the circumstances and looks on as the Commander outlines his plan. When the Commander mentions Kyra, Cait stands up and yells, "I will not have that bitch in my house!" Ariel appears in the doorway and all three adults turn in unison toward the small child.
Kyra: On her way to Duckhead. She is the plan. She sits in meditative silence on the private transport oblivious to the multi-hued lights flashing by.
Von: Refused to take no. He is with Kyra. His left hand has a firm grip on his right. It shakes anyway.
Rog and John: Making idle conversation. The Matutinal Mercy has not yet been delivered. The room is ice cold. Neither notice.
Yul: Still in hospital. Too high to wonder why. Too low to care.
Kieran: Closely watching events unfold.
The Unknowns: Closely watching Kieran.

This is the kind of chapter you get after I've spent 10 hours driving with nothing to do but think and too tired to write a decent piece. Peace.
I hadn't thought of Kyra, now that you write it, I wonder why. Miracles, things that one hardly dared hope for or could not have imagined, have featured on these pages a few times at least. Kyra, John and Rog especially, and especially of late, have been watching each other's backs so to speak, carrying each other through, fighting for each other when needs must, regardless of what it costs. Kyra once again has both Von and Kieran with her, and through them, Papa, and there is a real sense, to me at least, that he is there with her, not necessarily literally, but just the fact that others are filling that role, the one that means someone is there for her, someone is willing to care for her, listen, teach, learn.
The guys have shared so much now, not time, but experience, and though their situation may seem dire, it isn't just that Kyra may yet be able to save the day that has one worrying less about them in this chapter than some others, but also the impression that these two men are able to handle just about anything and should the worst come to the worst, they'll face it, and better than that, they'll have someone with which to do it.
Trev, we need to see a little more, he's not right of course, but we've hardly seen him conscious since to have gained an impression of just how deep the events that happened have gripped him. Here, the fact that he goes back, tells us, it's much worse than we could have imagined. I so want to explore (read, comment) inside his mind, his heart, but am afraid to too, to see the depths. Through it all, Mairi I think will follow him, what I mean is, she will not seperate herself in any way, and it will be as much of a hell for her.
Em evokes perhaps the most concern in this chapter, strangely when her situation is weighed against Trev's, Rog and John's, or the emotional impact that losing the men would have on Cait and Yul, but the thought of Em making herself bleed and taking pleasure in it speaks of such pain and instability, she may just be the one one would rush to aid first.
Suggestions here of the kind of emotion that will be in the room, when Kyra and Cait finally meet.
This is a smorgesbord of appetizers and an excellent chapter, all rallied up now, eager to rush ahead into the throes of what happens next with each of these beloved characters, each on the threshold of lifechanging events. After 10 hours in a car, who would know unless you had stated it, rockin' chapter!
Thank you Sunshine. More time in the car tomorrow and the day after. You'll have to wait. I have no idea which of these to explore next. I'll take a coffee if you have one. :-)
I'll bring you one. :-)
No worries on which, so long as you get around to all. :-D Sweet dreams when you get that far, Poppet, x
Emy would be interesting to read more about :) I followed the "Brooch" link .... lovely fractal btw. And I was reminded of something the Victorians made popular..."Hairwork" jewelry. Using locks of hair from their loved ones, they would make (or have made) brooches, watches, earrings... It was sentimental - and considered a high priveledge to have a part of a loved one nearby. (Queen Victoria actually had jewelry made from her children's baby teeth...it would have been considered absurd to throw them away - as if throwing away a part of her children. LOL)
I don't know much of Emy, but it would be interesting to see how she shifts (or doesn't) in relation to having her senses so altered. I'm guessing the isolation chamber is by request, and not by demand...
Also, her mother's energy in that brooch - well, we all know that sometimes what is not seen is much more powerful than what is.
Have a great drive today - be safe - and looking forward to more of the story!
Namaste, Trée !
Thank you Grace. After ten hours in the car yesterday I'm dragging my feet at getting back on the road. Good news is our destination today is only a couple hours away. Heading to Kentucky to see the Mammoth Cave area. With a little luck, me and C will be staying in a wigwam tonight. :-D
Emy and Trev are feeling a similar destructive energy, although for slightly different reasons. Neither is currently able to accept what has happened to them. Both are resisting what is. Emy will be okay, in time. Trev, however, right now, has a death wish. He wants Sal to abuse him again. He wants, almost craves abject humiliation, the pain, the lost of control that he knows Sal can inflict. He wants more. He wants to go deeper. He wants her to strip the last remnants of his former self, to destroy them and in the process either destroy him or destroy whatever images of himself he is still holding on to. The danger, which he is embracing for all the wrong reasons, is the possibility that she will kill him, or that BC's people will kill him. Still, he cannot stop himself from this path. Apparently, neither could Mairi. And with current events being what they are, no one else is going to be able to do much to help him if things get out of control, which they will.
A wigwam no less, wow! Have a ton of fun with C, missing you about the 'sphere already, x
I know how you feel doing this...It is a gathering of facts at leisure...or at a long stretch on silence.. some of the descption seem to filter how you must feel at the time you write this, like Yul" too high to wonder why & too low to care"
& hey... by the way, the whore mother did not materialise after all.. she just did not fit in & I had to change the story there :D but I could use that idea somewhere .. thanks :D
Mona, it does. I seem to have some hostility inside of me at the moment and so my characters punch people and walls, they cuss and shake and some just lose themselves in drugs. :-)
Sending you some peacefull easy feelings to help with the anger...
xoxox
Thank you Grace. I feel better already. :-)
10 hours driving and none of it was to see me. *sigh* and I had the ice cream all ready. ;o)
Linny, just say the word.
Aha, I voted "Slap her", I'm in the 50% majority :)
Saffy, not sure the slap is gonna happen, but of all the options, it is the one I'd like to see the most. :-D
Now, does Kyra just take it, or does she slap the shiott out of her back? :-D
lose themselves in drugs? cuss and hit walls? slaps? what is happening & why?
Hey You! take care okay?
The characters are under great stress and it is showing. I think they all need a day or a week at the spa. :-D
Doing my best to take care of me. Sometimes I have to relearn what that means.
I liked it though, the different situations puts the views of everyone in my imagination.
I hope you're well rested now and will be back to writing soon. I also hope everything is OK, I've had an odd feeling the past couple of days.
HUUUUGS and kisses to you and Jack!
Karen, thanks for thinking about me. I've been in an odd place the last few weeks, more stressed than I should be, which has made me take a step back and reevaluate where I am. I'm moving in the right direction, so no worries there.
As for the story, it will be back. Not sure when. I could feel the desire to write tonight or it could be several days or even weeks, but I do know enough that I have to let the writing come to me and not force it. The last few chapters, in my opinion, were not very good and I don't like posting stuff at that level. Right now I feel as thought I have completely forgotten how to write. I know that sounds strange, but that is the feeling. It won't persist and so I wait it out.
Thanks again for stopping by and caring enough to ask. Much appreciated. :-)
This one is too hard for me to put together, the chapters it is based on left a lot to the imagination so I never was really clear what happened in the first place so this chapter is really confusing to me. I can tell this is an excellent chapter and I can also tell that the problem is my neurological one, the comprehension problem. I will read again tomorrow, maybe it will make sense to me again then. I hope to catch up soon. Hugs and kisses, handsome man.
O
O, this is a hard chapter to grasp so I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. I do "Round the Horn" chapters in order to get my own brain around everything that is happening, so when you see one, it is me trying to herd cats so to speak.
Again, I can't tell you how much it means to me to see you making this effort to read the last six months worth of chapters. Nothing honors a writer more than to be read and to be read with attention and loving care. I would hug you to pieces if I could. Your effort is a gift to me beyond my ability to express in words. Thank you my dear beautiful soul. Thank you my dear beautiful O.
I LOVE the style of this chapter!
