556. Clinquant: Stagecraft

As Stay plays (soundtrack to Clinquant), the camera focuses on Von sitting on the bench, from a distance. The volume increases, the camera zooms in for a close up, his deep blue eyes are tear filled, staring straight ahead, his head not moving. The lyrics, the female voice, bring visions of Zoe to his mind and it seems as if she is reaching out to him, that it is she who is singing. The camera lifts and whirls around him as the leaves around the tree, his black cloak upon the bed of golden leaves, the stone chapel in the background. The screen fades to black with the lyrics growing louder, cutting, stay with me.

Dave Stewart wrote Stay under the pseudonym Jean Guiot and was original performed, to much commercial success, by Shakespear's Sister. As with matters of taste, I simply prefer his own version as sung here. Enjoy.

I see him, bless his breaking heart, still clearer.
Have loved this song since I watched it on Top of the Pops, looking forward to hearing this version. Vivid choice of music. Your words paint the image.

Great music. The song reflects a sadness though...supplimented by the scene that you etched of course!

Mona, glad you liked the song. I was editing the said chapter and listening to music. By the luck of the playlist and no hand of mine, Dave's Stay came on and about 3/4's of the way through the female singer's voice, singing 'stay with me' felt like the scene I describe here. A moment. A lyric. An emotion. And the two, chapter and song, meld together.

Hello there sweet man. I come to you and find myself taken back in time. The magnificent, colorful fractals and equally brilliant writing style wrap me in a soft, blanket of melancholy. I feel as though I've come home to a place of serinity....salvation....comfort.

I think of you often,
As Gustav approached Louisiana last week, I wondered for your kin down south and prayed they would be safe and dry.
You know I send only love your way.
Take good care, my friend.
You are always close to my heart.

Thank you Aggie. Always a pleasure to see you stopping by. My mom got electricity back yesterday. My sister is still waiting. Otherwise, everyone dodged a bullet. However, Ike appears to be on the almost exact same track. I fear two things. First, that Ike will be the storm Gustav was thought to be; and second, that hurricane fatigue will cause fewer people to evacuate.

Take care Aggie and hope to see you around again.

What a perfect song to put with this chapter. Just perfect.

More expertise from the Dust Bunny Hostage. :)

Thanks Jen. Sometimes lyrics and a particular singer's voice combine to spark my imagination as if I'm seeing a chapter that was in a movie. This song did this for this chapter. Glad you approved. ;-)

poor poor Von...

I love how you incorporate all of these sensual elements into the story. You're so good at bringing all of this to life.
