One

Just one thing: Love

“I’ll tell you the secret to life. This one thing. Just this one thing. You stick to that and everything else don’t mean sh**,” said Curly

“What’s the one thing?” asked Mitch.

“That’s what you’ve got to figure out.” replied Curly.

  1. I have nothing intelligent or even non-intelligent to say to this one, just: :-)

  2. Just is good. :-) Like Buddha and the flower, the simple recognition of a smile is all that is needed. You are brilliant my dear. :-)

I've been wanting to do this image for a long time. The idea of just one thing comes from the movie City Slickers, when Curly (Jack Palance) utters that famous line. Now that was a magical movie moment if there ever was one. :-D

From a review of the movie:

Crystal, Kirby, and Stern's characters lead the herd back successfully to the Colorado ranch, and Crystal shares the last thing Curly taught him. It was a profound existentialist lesson (like Kierkegaard's idea that I could live and die for): what really matters in life is for each of us to find our passion, our "One Thing".

  3. Great image, title, and caption. Why not put it on your sidebar? It would be great to see it on a daily basis.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Deb, great idea. I've never tried to put an image like this on my sidebar so I'm not quite sure how to go about it with blogger. Can you point me in the right direction?

  5. Hi Trée! Benedict XVI just leaved Poland. More in my blog. Jaroslav

  6. Hey Jar, good to see you again. I'm on my way over to check it out.

  7. Deb, as you can see I'm teachable. :-)

Here is the site that made it possible: Blogger Help

  8. :-D Apologies, read that through and it made no sense. Try again:

Several times I've not got further than thinking about a post that made reference to that line. :-)
I've not read any Kiekegaard (double blush as I do believe he is Danish), but watching the scene in the movie when it first came out quite a few years ago now, it made quite the impact. You said it best in a way I can only agree with "what really matters in life is for each of us to find our passion".

Hope you are all better and having a fantastic day!!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Sunshine, I think it's so important, I've taken Deb's advice and placed the image on my sidebar. Been a good day here and I'm feeling better or maybe it's just the brandy talking. :-D

Sweet dreams when you get that far. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  10. You are feeling better, brandy induced or not, that's great news!! :-)
    Thanks, x

  11. Is it time for some coffee in Denmark? Sweetie, you really should try and get some more rest. :-)

  12. I know, not healthy, and after the 15th I have every intention of 8 a night :-)

I'd pour an extra, but it's getting late there. :-) Sweet dreams when you get that far, x

  14. Deb, thanks for the idea. :-)

  15. Tree, thanks for the lesson on A Pope. I honestly hadn't heard of him (shame on me, Literature student). I did read Lord Byron though. We learn something new everyday, don't we. Maybe the library has a copy of his works...

  16. You're welcome Saffy. What are friends for? ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  17. And I was hoping you would tell us the one thing... oh, well... back to trying to figure it out!

I loved this little post and image - thanks :)

    ReplyDelete
  18. Morning Melly. I suppose we all have to answer that question for ourselves. Let me know if you find that "one thing" in your life. I would love to hear how you put your insights into words. Peace my friend. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  19. :) One very good thing...and a great image now attached to that thought forever in my mind.

Very happy Monday sweet man. I do hope it is full of...well...one thing. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Aggie, you make me smile like no one else. Wishing you a very happy Monday too my dear sweet very sexy blogger babe. :-)

  21. You have put up a lot of nice works while I was gone. My favorite is the Garlic. I have already found the 1, and that changed me forever.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Thanks DJB. The garlic seemed to be a fave of many. I might need to do a whole food series. :-)

I'm envious of the trip you've been on. And, if you've found "the one" in your life I'm equally envious. Travel safe me friend.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Thanks Oliviah. Your kind words are always most appreciated. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  24. I don't have the answer. Maybe there are too many 1s out there...

PS I hope you're feeling better.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Thanks Chicky, I am feeling better and I guess from your last post so are you. :-)

Of course, time in bed is not such a bad thing. Come join me and we'll "heal" each other. :-)

  26. get well soon Tre...awwww...

    Hugggggz!
    Keshi.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Thanks for the hugs Keshi. I'm feeling much better and I hope and trust the same for you my dear angel.

    ReplyDelete
  28. "One thing" is the form following the function of nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Travis, is form and nothingness one thing, which is to say two sides of the same coin or, if seen as two things, do they indicate delusion on a macro level?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hey beautiful :-) Happy Wednesday!

    ReplyDelete
  31. And to you too Sunshine. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  32. And a Happy Tuesday too. :-D

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yeah, let's not forget Tuesday--LOL. :-D

    ReplyDelete
  34. Wait a minute...

Was that "Mitch" and Curly, or Moe and Curly? If Moe, then where's Larry?

    And just who's on first??

    ReplyDelete
  35. Darius, you're right! :-D

    ReplyDelete
  36. You tryin' to tell me something? :o)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Amazing that such a gem can be found in such a movie....

    ReplyDelete
  38. Mmmm, tell me what is the 'One' thing darlin'? Giggles!! ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Linny, only that ice cream is an option. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  40. OB, I was taught at an early age that truth is where you find it and often one finds it in the most unexpected places. Who would have thought Curly knew so much? :-)

Ok, time to head back to the fridge for another Dove bar. You've ruined me you know. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Y, I think you know what the "one thing" is, in fact I'm certain of it. Come a little closer and let me whisper it in your ear. Just a little closer darlin'. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Sweet dreams, when you get that far. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Just wanted to check in and say hey. Hey. Been MIA for awhile, looks like I missed a few things. Hope things are going well for you now - take care.

    ReplyDelete
  44. "Where, oh where has my little dog gone?
Oh where, oh where can he be?
With his ears cut short and his tail cut long,
Oh where, oh where can he be?"

hee hee - nursery rhymes to get stuck in your head. You'll be whistling it all day. :P
Just wunderin what you're up to and hoping you have a happy Wednesday.
    Hugs.

  45. My fave was always 'hey diddle diddle', I was fascinated by the cow who could jump over the moon :)

Good morning, hope you have a delightful day, x

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hey Meg. Always good to see you stop by. I'm doing fine. Thanks for asking. Hope and trust you are too. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Awww, Aggie, it's so nice to be wondered about. :-D

I'm in Tempe on business today. Just a one day trip to deal with some legal issues regarding an upcoming trial, which is is just a couple weeks so I'll be heading back here again soon. The joy of participating in our legal system. Happy Happy, Joy Joy. :-D

  48. Sunshine, I should have brought my camera. The skies are crystal blue with not a cloud in sight and the desert is just absolutely gorgeous--in the morning--because once it starts to get hot then its a beotch. :-D

If today is Thursday, have a good one. :-D

    ReplyDelete
  49. lol, sounds lovely anyway :-) You shall have to take the camera, when you head back again in a couple of weeks. In the mean time, happy working :-D and a safe & pleasant journey home.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Absolutely... Love is what we carry with us, always.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Karen, so good to see you again. At the end of the day, what else is there besides Love? I do mean Love with a capital L. Glad to see you had a wonderful time on holiday. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  52. I just love City Slickers and the sequel. :-) Thinkin I'm gonna have to go put it on now..*giggles*

    ReplyDelete
  53. hope ur feeling betta today Tre...

    Keshi.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Kaliblue, nice to see you stop by. Always good to touch base with another Tennessee blogger. City Slickers is a great movie. Let me know when you are going to put it on and I'll bring the popcorn. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  55. Keshi, thanks for checking in on me. I'm feeling much better sweetie. In other words, it's safe to come a little closer. :-D

    ReplyDelete
  56. Hey you :-) Hope you had a pleasant flight.
Sweet dreams, when you get that far, x

    ReplyDelete
  57. By the way, has anyone noticed this "one" image is not the same one I originally posted? Just checking. :-)

I re-rendered yesterday with just a few subtle changes for those keeping score. Do you hear me Lisa? ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  58. Very pleasant flight. However, I get to do it all over again on Monday.

Morning Sunshine. Has the coffee kicked in yet? :-)

    ReplyDelete
  59. Re: the image, have you taken a step back? Hadn't noticed, but then I'm not known for my observational skills. :-D

Coffee didn't cut it, so I took a walk in the rain, got thoroughly drenched and thoroughly woken. :-)

    Monday, so soon. Another quickie?

    ReplyDelete
  60. not ruined

    better
    because of the reawakening

    :-]

    ReplyDelete
  61. since when am i a scorekeeper?
    it also appears i've become
    less and less observant
    as i age gracefully...
    who knows,
    could this signify
    a further dive inward,
    or just simply
    that my eyesight
    has gone all to sh-t
    (that was shit
    in case it wasnt clear)...

    so no,
i have no idea what changes
you made to all those 1's.
i cant seem to detect a difference.
    i personally would enjoy
    the image if all those
    1's were completely gone,
as the sky or planet or whatever
    that blue stuff is,
is quite lovely on its own,
and all those ones tend to impose
    an idea upon that image
    and clutter up an otherwise
    peaceful scene.
but then, thats just my old
    Crabby opinion.
and no, i dont want you
to take all the ones out
    just because i am an
    opinionated old Crab...

    but, on a lighter note....

    funny, us jazz musicians
    used to joke about
    finding the One,
    or knowing where One was,
    meaning
the first beat in each bar
    of music...
    or something like that.

as far as the secret to life goes,
    dang! i thought it was
    chocolate all this time...
    sheesh.
    i'd better get back to
    those philosophy books.
    i must have missed something...

    ReplyDelete
  62. Afternoon Sunshine. On the image, I just cleaned up some of the one's to give the image a less cluttered look and moved a couple of them around.

Trip back to Mesa will be a three day affair, which I hope will fulfill all my obligations as a witness in the lawsuit. Been waiting three years for this case to make it to court so I'm very ready to get this done.

Thanks for the chocolates and flowers. Much appreciated. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  63. OB, I like the way you think. You've got potential my dear! :-D

If my freezer is fully stocked with Dove bars, could that move me from Joe#5 status to maybe Joe#4? Never hurts to ask. Now if I had a pleasure boat and the ice chest on that boat was filled with Dove bars, what would that do for me? :-D

  64. Morning Lisa. You know, my chiropractor's name is Lisa and she looks very, very, very much just like you. I'm not shiotting you--it is eerie the resemblence. And, she is from New York and has 11:11 tattooed on her lower back. Now, what are the chances of that!

Just kidding about the 11:11, but everything else is spot on. :-)

I'll give you a pass on the scorekeeping duties, but age is a good thing. Young is nice, but nothing beats experience! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  65. And finally, happy Thursday :-)

    ReplyDelete
  66. LOL, yes, finally it's Happy Thursday! Hope and trust you have made the most of your 86,400 seconds today. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  67. I haven't found that L-O-V-E yet, but I will when the time is right. Love for my family, friends, and my cat keeps me going (as well as love for humankind).

    ReplyDelete
  68. i guess the only difference
    between your chiropractor Lisa
    and me lisa
    is that
    i'm not that manipulative.
    (no, really, i'm not!)
thats why i dont get along
    with men...
    okay, that was a little
    far fetched...

almost fell for the 11:11 comment!
    you got me, baby!!
    obviously YOU havent seen it
    on the clock yet...
    anyone?
    has anyone seen 11:11
    on the clock more times
    than they'd like to remember?

    any by the way,
    just because i'm old
    doesnt mean
    i'm experienced!
    wait, that didnt sound right...

    ReplyDelete
  69. just because i'm old
    doesnt mean i can type...
(sorry, my kid was dashing off
    into the great unknown
    with my car, of course
    so it was a race
    to the front door...
    he still got the car...)

    soooooooooooooo,
    what DID you change ?
    did you add another 1?
    is there an 11:11
    hiding in there somewhere?
    a message about
    one of the Beatles perhaps?
    do tell...!

    ReplyDelete
  70. OMG Lisa, I never realized my image had 11:11 in it until you just mentioned it. What does it mean? You must tell me! :-D

Honest to Janus, I didn't do this on purpose. Has it doomed my blog? Notice, this is about as long as I've gone without an update. Could flaunting the 11:11 in the face of whoever, could that have been a big mistake that I'm only now paying for?

I need your help Lisa. Talk to me. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  71. Karen, one never knows what is around the next corner, so we all just keep going. Much love to you and the cats from me and Jack. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  72. i dont know.
    maybe this extended
    11:11 flaunting
    is a good thing...
(um, just where IS the 11:11, please?
i seem to have missed it,
    not that you're short on
    ones in this picture,
    by any means...
is it the one on the horizon?
    the mirror-ish image?
    besides, wheres the " : "
    dont you need a :
    to make 11 11
    11:11?
i'm not sure if theres any rules...
    ps who is Janus?
    yet another one of your
    female aquaintances perchance?

    anyway, fear not
    lisa is here
    talking away to...
    well to nobody, really!
    she says your blog
    is not doomed
    by the excessive presence
    of 1's,
    but rather,
    enhanced....
    what'd "the old bag" say?
    "not ruined,
    better,
    because of the
    reawakening..."
    i like that.

    ReplyDelete
  73. ...of course, there was that incident
    with the laptop malfunction,
    you know,
when the B and the N
    fell off....
    and of course,
    the "space" bar....!
    OMG, i'm getting
    goosebumps....!
    this is more cosmic
    than an alien pod!

  74. I agree, OB wins the gold star of the day for the from ruin to awakening bit. Bloody brilliant insight. For my own edification, she should visit more often. :-D

As for the 11:11, if you can't see it, it must not be there since I consider you to be the 11:11 expert. In fact, before you brought it to my attention, I had no idea of the global relevance of 11:11. Quite spooky when you think about it.

As for my handicapped lappy, I perfer to think of it as lingustically challenged, thank you very much. :-)

I think it's time to trot out the peace flags for my next post. Never hurts to fall to one's knees and beg for mercy. :-D

    ReplyDelete
  75. no need to beg...
    so, wheres the 11:11?
    i still cant see it!
    unless its that horizon
    mirror image thingy...
    does 11:11 have
    global relevance?
    i had to google it
    to find out more,
    because of the ridiculous
number of times i see it
    on my clock...

    anyway, just be thankful
    your lap doesnt have
    a wardrobe challenge....

    ReplyDelete
  76. An attitude of gratitude. That's my final answer and I'm sticking to it. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  77. And you thought I was all about the bicycle...the wheels turn in many ways, my friend :-]

Hmmm, Dove bars would definitely put you in line for a promotion (hmmm, how solid is Joe #4 at this point?)...but consider there are only five Joes

    and
    you're
    one of them

Thanks for the gold star -- been awhile since I've gotten one of those!

    ReplyDelete
  78. OB, you continue to impress and amaze me in so many different ways. Thoughts of falling at your feet and uttering "I'm not worthy" are starting to cross my mind. :-D

Do Godiva bars count too? Had some of them this weekend and I must say they are one of the few foods that causes spontaneious (sp?) eye closing along with lots of Mmmmm, sounds. :-D

    ReplyDelete
  79. Godiva is great -- they make ice cream bars? So many ice cream bars, so little time...and so much cycling that would have to be done (hmmm, this is not a bad thing!)

But, Dove holds the top spot when it comes to plain'ol dark chocolate (I keep those in the freezer too)...lots of mmmmmmmmm s.

No falling anywhere...the star was more than enough :-]

    ReplyDelete
  80. OB, Godiva does indeed make ice cream bars. I love raspberry and they make a white chocolate rippled with raspberry ice cream covered in milk chocolate.

Dark chocolate. Mmm, I imagine you do know the two great benefits of dark chocolate, which is considered by many who know to be a health food in moderation. (1) a wonderful anti-oxident; (2) I forget the scientific details probably because I agreed with the conclusion such that the details were unimportant, but dark chocolate is suppose to do wonders in enhancing the sexual experience. I not shiotting you on that one--I actually read a medical report that seriously made that claim. Good enough for me! :-)

I'm off to see James in concert tonight in Atlanta--about a five hour drive. Have a great weekend OB and I'll see you when I get back. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  81. I agree, the details are unimportant compared to the result! >:-)

Hope you had a great concert.

Really, next time I'll reply on a different post!

    ReplyDelete
  82. OB, you are making me blush. :-D

I had a great time at the concert. Thanks for asking.
