Livestrong: L'Alpe d'Huez

Lance Armstrong returned to one of the most revered climbs in the Tour de France, the Alpe d'Huez, to help celebrate the 50th birthday of his close friend, Joe Aragona.

If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be? Outside the obvious, "be where you are," I could think of few places better than, as OB said the other day, letting my soul settle in the saddle of a long climb in the Alps while raising awareness in the fight against cancer.

Kudos to my good friend Lee McCroskey for surpassing 100,000 points on our fabulous cancer fighting team. Thanks Lee for your quiet dedication to this cause.

Quote of the Day

What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

  1. Where would I be? In the arms of my soulmate! Of course I don't have a soulmate *yet*. This is OK, but I live in hope of finding one. Apparently they are handy to have around the home :)

  2. Jenni, I love the sense of passion in your answer. Keep looking and if you find your soulmate, hang on tight and never let them go. :-)

  3. I would be sitting in a lounge chair, soaking in the sun on some tropical paradise while a georgous cabana boy continually refilled my frozen drinks.

  4. Sherri, would a carrot or two be on your list? :-)

  5. Wow, dig that awesome photograph. I'm sorry but it's made me feel...well, FEEL good :-)

Cycling, soulmates, finding heaven again by any chance? I know I am!

*sigh* I need more miles on the bike! Sunday and me, 40 miles.

    Pure, complete heaven.

Oh, and just one last thing. I can HIGHLY recommend a body wrap to anyone. Thanks for stopping by my blog - you're a sweetheart!

    Happy Thursday :-)

  6. Beautiful picture and I do love that Emerson quote, brilliant!

I could think of at least a dozen places off the top of my head, where I'd love to be, simplicity seems to be the common factor in them all though, nothing knocking at the door.

Hope Thursday thus far has been a treat, xo

  7. Leigh, if you go to the Graham Watson link on my sidebar you will find the complete compliment of photos from this ride. The idea of riding up Alpe d'Huez with Lance, as these guys did on such a gorgeous day, well, I too feel in love with the idea. Same here, not enough time in the saddle but I think that is about to change. :-D

So glad to hear the full body wrap was a success. Maybe one of these days. :-D

  8. Sunshine, if my memory serves me right, you have used this quote on your blog in the past. It is one of my fave's too. I've always associated this quote with overcoming mountains, literal or not so as soon as I saw this pic I knew I wanted to use this quote.

Not feeling all that well today--stuffy head--but I have so much to be thankful for and so many blessings in my life--and you, my dear, are one of those blessings. Thanks for thinking of me. Have a brilliant evening. :-)

  10. I might need some of that garlic below. :-)

Sweet dreams when you get that far.

  11. On my way now. Ginger actually, if it's a stuffy head on route to a cold and such like, is supposed to be a quick fix. Not sure if there is any truth in that, you could be the guinea pig and let the rest of us know for future reference. :-)
Garlic, ginger aside, really do hope you feel better asap and that you manage to have a good evening in spite.

  12. I'm taking some over the counter stuff that is making me very sleepy so I might not be far behind you. I'll keep the ginger in mind. :-)

  19. Where would I be? not a place, but a time: the middle of summer...

  20. OB, I see I'm not the only one missing some hot weather. This dang spring and cool temps is lasting forever. I just want to get on my bike and sweat. Of course, ice cream would be nice too. :-D

  21. Me too Sunshine. Whatever I took last night was fo sur not the right stuff. So, now, I'm trying different stuff. And as soon as I finish my last interview of the day, I'm heading out to buy some ginger. I've got C again this weekend and early next week. Today is his last day of school. You think the boy is excited? :-D

  22. :-D Jumping for joy, I should imagine!

You can chew the ginger or chop it and boil it up with cloves into a type of tea-soup-concoction. Yum ;) Actually, it's quite nice in a strange sort of way.
Come to think of it and not only do you probably know this, but you'll also prefer it, the thing that works best of all is hot brandy (brandy in some boiled water).
    :-) Feel better, xo

  23. Oooh, hadn't thought of the hot brandy idea. Do I have to wait til' 5 o'clock somewhere? :-D

    ReplyDelete
  24. Nope, that's the beauty of it when it's for medicinal purposes, anytime is brandy time. :-)
Hope you have a wonderful Saturday, xo

    ReplyDelete
  25. Well, if you say so. "See you at the bar." :-D
